Just got this a few days ago and I'm hooked. The vibrato vocals will probably annoy some people, but I love the rawness and immediacy of it. Its not a fast or loud record, but just crackles with energy..

Has anybody checkout out Cheap Freaks

There's a couple of lads from the now defunct garage punks The Things in them. The tunes are absolutely class, raw as hell and just pumping with energy.
Haven't managed to catch them live yet as most of their gigs clash with my own but I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Bell Orchestre - As Seen Through Windows 3323 1
Started by floodzer
I recently bought this second and most recent album by the canadian 6 piece instrumental collective. I hadnt heard of them previous to noticing them on the picnic line-up. The band consist of 1 part time and 2 full time members of Arcade Fire which of course caught my interest, but make no mistake they are very different to AF.Its quite Avant-garde. Lots of Horns, strings, complex percussion and electonica. Some tunes being very orchestral and some are almost jazz. I'd recommend it to fans of Be...

Just listening to the album 'This Is It and I Am It and You Are It and So Is That and He Is It and She Is It and It Is It and That Is That' for the first time and liking it so far. I never that this sort of Van Halen type guitar fretwork would be cool again, but she's bringing it back

RSAG (aka Jeremy Hickey) is a multi-instrumentalist who records, performs and produces all his own material. The 'Organic Sampler', is musically many steps further and sideways, and the genesis of the new visual experience - sound and vision hand in hand - is a multi-media rock and roll cornucopia; the future is here - look and listen.
Live RSAG plays drums / percussion and sings. The backing tracks are recorded in his studio. Visually, he has created a virtual band which is projected on ...

Never Thought I'd See This... 2361 0

Classic artists Tony Iommi, Steven Lukather, Billy Gibbons, Dave Grohl, Alice Cooper, Geoff Tate and many more artists have put together a Christmas album, called 'We Wish You a Metal Xmas and a Headbanging New Year'. It’s a pretty interesting and original idea, I’ve got to say that hearing metal versions of classic Christmas songs is significantly cooler than I had expected. Check it out here:

They're a trash metal band from America that sing songs about partying and getting drunk. They're deadly fun. Picked up their album 'the art of partying' when I was in New York and it's been stuck in the CD player ever since.
Going to see them in Fibber Magees. I know it's a complete dump and stinks of poo but this should be a deadly gig. If you've a free Friday night, go check them out

OK, this recommendations a bit old school but I was a big fan of hers back in the day. I thought it was an appropriate recommendation because she has a great new album out called 'How to Walk Away' and she's playing the sugar club this saturday. If you get the chance this weekend, go check her out, it's gonna be a great gig and possibly the last chance that you'll get to see her in ireland. She's talking of retiring from music

Nicole Atkins 3008 3
Started by aidan
I've just listened to 'Neptune City' by Nicole Atkins for the first time today. Almost immediately, I listened to it for the second and third times.
Wow.
Spector-style '60s pop with a bluesy-country tint to it. She has a fantastic voice that soars like her songs do.
Has she been noticed in Eire or anywhere else yet If I'm years behind everyone else and totally uncool, I just don't care because this album is wonderful.
Here's her single 'The Way It Is'. The chorus at ...

Bit of a serious blast from the past, but like most people I missed these 80s early pre-nirvana indie bands the first time round. Heard the track 'Cast a Shadow', such a great song that I had to seek out the album 'black candy' that it's taken from.
Anyone else a fan

live performance
'James Guilmartin is an intense performer who sings and plays guitar with mountains of passion and conviction. His solo offering ´The Breadcrumb Trail´was a worthy forerunner to band versions of ´Break The Spell´and ´All The Dogs Are Howling Their Own Tune´. The former is appropriately hypnotic and his soloing in both takes you to places most acts only dream of. ´Wise Up´has echoes of sixties East Coast American rock and fluid eastern...

Ex-member of Drive By Truckers, Southern whiskey soaked voice, makes being all American cool again. Check out his debut solo album Shores Of The Ditch, and immediately obtain Drive By Truckers entire back catalogue especially The Dirty South.
