1 Replies and 1233 Views The Killers Gay Murder Concept  1233  1 Started by  Una (This is from some random blog I found, it's pretty funny if you're into Hot Fuss) On the Mats with the Boys: An Examination of the Homosexual Subtext of the Killers’ Hot Fuss It’s clear to any listener that the driving emotion of the Killers’ album Hot Fuss is jealousy—a jealousy so intense that it ends with a character’s murder. However, it’s only with a certain amount of close listening and some rearranging that the secret plot of the album completely emerges. The key to the puzzle...

0 Replies and 1034 Views A Festival To Get Your Teeth Into  1034  0 Started by  Una The initial line-up for PATTI SMITH’s MELTDOWN has been confirmed. This year’s event takes place at the South Bank Centre in London between June 11-26. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Smith’s seminal album ’Horses’, and to celebrate the singer will perform the album in its entirety at the Royal Festival Hall on June 25. The album’s producer John Cale is the evening’s special guest. Elsewhere in the festival Smith and Steve Earle will appear at the same venue on June 19. The o...

5 Replies and 1440 Views Best Tribute Albums??  1440  5 Started by  fiddlechick All songwriters seem to get a tribute album after a few years - I can imagine some of them are useless given that there are so many and most of them filled with 'up and coming' artists who get put on them by record companies as opposed to being fans. I only have a few that I actually listen to - being a massive Bruce Springsteen fan I've quite a few of his tributes - the Uncut ones, 'One Step Up/Two Steps Back' (with Jackson Cage by John Wesley Harding outstripping Bruce's version by miles) , '...

6 Replies and 1034 Views If you could plan a festival !!  1034  6 Started by  klootfan Since its friday, how about some fun. If you had the chance to plan a mini festival in dublin, what theme would you pick and which bands would you put where. For arguments sake, im suggesting 2 acts per venue. And im suggesting the following venues because of their size and prominence. The Olympia, Whelans, Vicat St, TBMC and Crawdaddy. Each of these are of varying size and therefore, I suppose, try match the band to the venue. For me, it would be a north american theme, and m...

14 Replies and 1117 Views The Wisdom Of Liam Gallagher  1117  14 Started by  Antistar Below is Liam Gallagher's hilarious attack on the current darlings of the UK indie music scene. Thank God there are still people like this guy around. But his own band are s**t too but he's still funny. In the current issue of NME, out nationwide today (April 27), the singer has attacked Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Keane and Pete Doherty. Speaking about Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos, Gallagher said: “He reminds me of f**king Right Said Fred. You put on 'I’m Too Sexy For My f**ki...

16 Replies and 1135 Views Genius After Death  1135  16 Started by  Gar Alot of musicians do not rise to the deserved status of genius until after their death. It's a strange thing really but the point to this thread is to discover the musicians who should be lauded as a genius while they currently live. The title of genius is sometimes thrown about lightly, so just because your favourite artist of the month has released a great album doesn't mean they will be remembered in decades to come. When I think of musicial geniuses, I think of Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Nina...
