14 Replies and 1230 Views Saturation Point?  1230  14 Started by  vandala Okay, I’m about to start a thread that I imagine may have certain Cluas posters reaching for their caps-lock button in righteous indignation. For, if the truth be known, I think I’m starting to finally reach ‘saturation point’ with popular music. What do I mean by this Well, if you can indulge me a second, I’ll do my best to explain. I’ve been buying records ever since I was about ten years old. I’m in my early thirties now and, at a rough guess, have probably amassed the bulk of two thousa...

12 Replies and 1173 Views The 2nd album barrier  1173  12 Started by  Archie Just after listening to Audioslave's second offering: dismal, truly dismal. Got me thinking: what other bands/artists made a huge splash with their first album, but couldn't keep it up into their second As for future, I'm thinking Franz Ferdinand and the Killers may not live up to expectations if they release more...

11 Replies and 1394 Views THE gig of Bud Rising...  1394  11 Started by  benni Just wondering what everyone thought was THE gig of Bud Rising. Myself... well British Sea Power on Tues were great but technical problems mean that they were a little more subdued than they usually are (anyone who saw them in Whelans in 2002 or Cork the night before will understand). I would have to say that Editors who supported The Departure were the best I caught. Absolutley flawless. Cant wait to see them in a few weeks time at Oxegen.

3 Replies and 1012 Views Whirlwind Heat  1012  3 Started by  benni Any one know these guys Two albums so far.. first is excellent - Do Rabbits Wonder. Interesting set up ie. Drums bass and singer/koog machine but manage to keep it fresh. Plenty of nods to Sonic Youth and Pixies but not boringly predictable. They're from USA and have yet to play an Irish date but I've heard they are nuts live. Worth a check if anyones looking for something new... www.whirlwindheat.com

35 Replies and 5070 Views CASH & coldplay  5070  35 Started by  Rev Jules Have just heard 'Til Kingdom Come' the so called country ditty that Coldplay 'wrote for' Johnny Cash. Oh mother of sweet divine Jesus in Heaven ! You have got to be fr*ck*ing kidding me! Those bedwetters really are delusional. Hey Chris, ditch the Fairtrade Coffee for Malt Liquor and your Hollywood Princess for some strippers and maybe, in a thousand years time, you might be up to writing something in the distant vincity of Johnny Cash. Bleuch !

3 Replies and 1125 Views Buck 65 last night.  1125  3 Started by  Unicron Not bad, nowhere near as good as his last Whelans gig but it wasn't terrible. New stuff will need to grow on me I think. Why, oh why do assholes insist on getting drunk at gigs and try to ruin the whole thing for everyone The dude who whistled in time with Rich's scratching made me want to kill. If anyone was there (and this will sound odd if you weren't), do you know who Weasel Penis was

1 Replies and 1315 Views Beck !  1315  1 Started by  LooseFir What did people think What a legend! One of musics greats. The dining table scene was classic, and then they go and play the melody to golden age on the cutlery! Genius. Anyone see the stage truck outside the olympia after the gig, probably the biggest thing ive ever seen!

7 Replies and 1435 Views The La's at the Ambassador  1435  7 Started by  John Doe Anyone here go I got free tickets courtesy of the Irish Times. Thoroughly enjoyable gig. All of the album plus a few other songs I didn't recognise but which sounded just as strong. Lee Mavers certainly doesn't believe in that whole 'let's break down the barriers between the audience and the band, man !' vibe as he literally didn't say one word to the audience from start to finish of the gig. That small criticism aside it was a good night. Oh, apart from the knob end bouncer on the balcony...

2 Replies and 1149 Views Tom Vek last night  1149  2 Started by  benni He was pretty damn deadly. Wasnt expecting so much live instrumentation but its seemed like everything was. No laptops or walls of keyboards or anything and I kinda thought there'd be a bit o that! Crowd were ok - took a while to get into it but when they did it pretty banging. And may I just say I dont think I've ever heard a drum and a bass section SO Goddam loud! Pity about no encore but he didnt have any songs left so wat can ya do! Cracking stuff.
