38 Replies and 6694 Views RBA says: ‘how come cluas is so unpopular?’  6694  38 Started by  roseanne barrs armpit could it be because of all the members who like to write thousand word dissertations on why some album or artist is so amazingly fantastic but in reality are just trying to make themselves look intelligent and knowledgeable about music. s**t, theres about ten posts a day here compared to (another irish music forums) several hundred. why because you all take yourself far too seriously. ciao

33 Replies and 5664 Views Musician Cameos On TV  5664  33 Started by  Gar Is this tacky I've noticed a trend of this happening lately. When flicking through the channels I saw Modest Mouse on the O.C. and both Aimee Mann and James Taylor have appeared on The West Wing recently. While it's good that decent musicians are getting national and international coverage, I can't help but feel like its very cringe-worthy stuff. There's also a buckling trend of TV shows trying to get the hottest new band to feature on their soundtrack or during a show e.g. last year Cold...

16 Replies and 2245 Views MySpace and bands  2245  16 Started by  klootfan Has anyone here found themselves using myspace.com recently Ive noticed that quite a few of the bands I listen to are now utilizing MySpace.com as an access point for fans to their tours, music, blogs. Even, irish bands like turn and polar have myspace sites. Seems like a great idea really, as you get to view profiles of other fans of the bands who have registered as friends and you can also email the band for all those 'why no irish gig' questions. I wonder if the age of the pers...

15 Replies and 1633 Views Record Labels: do they influence your purchases?  1633  15 Started by  Gar Since its a boring Tuesday, I thought I would start a thread to garner some reaction(s). This is about record labels....do people pay attention to them (in the sense of picking up a new cd from an unheard of band just because they are on a certain label) Are indie labels cooler What about a band like Death Cab For Cutie who recently signed to a bigger mainstream label, are they sell-outs or just smart musicians Who are the best labels to be aware of (Rough Trade, Sub Pop, Merge, Matador, Isla...

0 Replies and 1474 Views sufjan stevens ticks  1474  0 Started by  Ciarán Ryan Hey I know there is only a 1 chance I'll be successful in my bid but anyway I've been trying for last few weeks to get sufjan tickets (got to the stage where I had a shop in Dublin who had 4 tickets left, but didn't do credit card, and by the time a friend went in they were gone) Just wondering does anyone by any strange chance have two tickets available. Willing to pay above face (but not much as I think touting is for pricks) but would reward in free hugs for life, or something to that exten...

2 Replies and 1901 Views guggenheim grotto album/cd packaging  1901  2 Started by  jmc105 got 'waltzing alone', guggenheim grotto's album yesterday - surely one of the best irish albums of the year (a lifetime in heat is really good). they've also produced an excellent package for the cd, kind of like the book-type yoke damien rice put together for 'o'. apart from photos and lyrics, you get a few words from each of the lads on the background to each song, a transcript of a discussion about cd-packaging in general from an online graphic design community and... a mini graphic novel! ...
