3 Replies and 1628 Views Too Obsessed with new bands and debut abums?  1628  3 Started by  Binokular Just something I've been feeling for a while, but was wondering what everyone else thought.... If theres possibly one trend in indie music in recent times, is that it seems there is a constant flow of new bands getting critical attention and even praise. OK this kind of thing has always gone on, but it just seems it's never been to the extent that it is these days, thanks in part to the internet. This isn't a bad thing, it's good that new bands get attention, but still.... ..are we perhaps...

26 Replies and 3133 Views Bastion of journalistic integrity  3133  26 Started by  Unicron SCOOP - NME Album Of The Year Editor's note: this post is going to stick at the top of the page for the rest of today as we feel it raises some important issues about the mainstream media, blogs and of course the music industry. Londonist will update as usual underneath this post. Today, NME publishes its annual Album Of The Year poll. For the benefit of our overseas readers, that's the New Musical Express, the UK's longest-running weekly music journal. The NME being the tastemakers that...

31 Replies and 5984 Views Worst band breakups for you, the fan  5984  31 Started by  klootfan So, I was walking home from work last night with the MP3 player on random and on pops a tune off of Ten Speed Racers first album. This was a band that I thought could really make it ( we all have one dont we :) ). Turned out at pretty much all of their gigs in dublin if I was around and even caught a few gigs across the country. So when they broke up, it kinda hurt a bit if you know what I mean. Now I hadnt lost my appetite to eat now are anything like that, but the thought of not seeing o...

10 Replies and 1444 Views Ireland's Best Festival Is Back  1444  10 Started by  Gar Yep, tickets for Electric Picnic 06 are on sale. And the news most of you were hoping for comes with it - it's a 3 day festival this year. 175 euro isn't a bad price at all. Wonder if the campsite will be bigger next time around, considering it will host an extra day. It all kicks off on Friday September 1st-3rd. Would it be too early to start a wishlist or speculation of headliners/acts

10 Replies and 1168 Views Stones for Phoenix Park  1168  10 Started by  klootfan RTE entertainment have the Rolling Stones down for Phoenix Park on 18 August 2006. Would this be one of those 'Got to seem before they die' gigs. Not a stones fan myself. In the sense that id listen to their music if it was on, but not pick up an album if I saw it in a shop.

0 Replies and 1277 Views Tapping The Source  1277  0 Started by  Rev Jules The missus was listening to Steve Earle on headphones recently and I was sitting on the couch but I thought she was listening to 'Old Macdonald Had A Farm'. When I found out the the actual track, it occured to me that prehaps every rockstar is trying, in their work, to mimic a favourite track from their youth. Over the last few months, in my limited free time, I have given this a bit of thought and this is what I have discovered. Gwen Stefani's work is inspired by 'Hey Micky' by Toni Bazil ...

6 Replies and 1760 Views Irish Managers - Who are the good ones?  1760  6 Started by  thethirdplace Never seen a post on this before and as we are about to enter the wonderful world of the band scene after rehearsing our butts off for a year I was wondering if anyone knows any managers in ireland of note Its probably way to early for us to be considering the management thing but thought it might make a good conversation piece as well. Obviously i am not talking about the likes of McGuiness and Co though they are obviously pretty good at their jobs but more the new manager scene
