radiohead, ok computer 1806 15
Started by horatio
from reading the Q top 100 i guess i was a little surprised to see radiohead at one and two. in my opinion it only goes to show the uselessness and irelevancy of such lists but especially that one. its been a while since i listened to radiohead at all, and im not more inclined to do so now. at the time i loved both albums (more so the bends) however now, i wouldnt really be bothered listening to either. im sure most people will agree they are good albums, but were they over-rated if they hadnt ...

Best Music site on Digital Media Awards 2501 5
Started by admin
Like last year, CLUAS was one of the sites up for consideration for the category of 'Best Music Site' at this year's 'Digital Media Awards'. I just got an email to say that, like last year, we didn't make the grade. Here are the 5 sites that did make the final shortlist for best music site. I provide below a few comments on some of the final choices.
SHORTLIST for 'BEST MUSIC SITE'

Santy was good enough to bring me a Sony NAS CZ1 for christmas. I'm supposed to be able to network it to my laptop and play all my stored music through it. I have the network set up and the server software installed but I'm getting a 'No Server' prompt on the unit, can anyone help me out here before I'm forced to smash it up with a large trout!!!

Simply Red good says housemate... 1689 14
Started by Norman Schwarzkopf
My housemate (female, 25) yesterday freely admitted to liking Simply Red and stated that Mick Hucknall was 'talented'. She would number Modest Mouse, Interpol and Minotaur Shock amongst her favourite acts.
After performing the Heimlich on me, she was subjected to severe questioning.
Does anyone else think this is healthy Should I move out

Readers' Poll results are now published 1401 12
Started by admin
The Readers' Poll results for 2005 are now published. Check them out at:
http://www.cluas.com/poll/2005/readers_poll_results.htm
Apolgies for the delay in publishing them. I always underestimate how much time it takes to count the votes (and to weed out the obvious chancers voting multiple times, you know who you are, etc).
So, diasagree with the readers' choices Well then post your comments back here.

Anti-rawk! 1179 0
Started by Protein biscuit
Great Popmatters article. Particular favourite below describing an
'anti-rawk' a*se-hole moment from The Killers:
1. The Killers 4 February 2005: Cambridge Corn Exchange — Cambridge, England
After a rousing opening number, Brandon Flowers complains that some water and beer has landed on his keyboard and, rather than doing it himself, summons a roadie to wipe it down. As said roadie wipes, the keys are pressed, producing random squawks. 'Mute it!' yells Flowers at the engineer.

I've just been listening to Smog. He does the neat trick of making songs that I think are quite short 7 minutes long without my realising. Who else do you think can do this
Off the top of my head I can only think of Sigur Ros. You know, when you're 3 minutes in to the song and think it's only been a few seconds.

From today Irish Times.
Stones gig prompts High Court action
Two major concert promoters have become involved in High Court proceedings over who will promote the Rolling Stones concert in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, in August.
Noel Travers, counsel for Dún Laoghaire-based MCD Promotions Ltd, told Mr Justice Roderick Murphy yesterday that MCD had learned of the intention of the Office of Public Works (OPW) to award running the concert to rival Aiken Promotions.
Mr Travers...

Your Favourite new old tunes of 2005 1244 8
Started by Binokular
It's customary to round of the year by coming up with our favourite lists of stuff released during the year. The thing is, a lot of us tend to discover som of our favorite music years, even decades after it's released. Just because it's not new, doesn't make it any less fresh or exciting when you first hear something great. So what are your fave new old tunes this year That is stuff released pre-2005 but you din't actually discover until this year.
Some I my faves:

I must apologize for the recent responses I have posted on some of the threads. It's not easy for me to say this but I quite like this site, it has a nice atmosphere and you people are alright. As I can only work from Home and live in the middle of nowhere (the nearest shop is 2 miles away), I like knowing about the Indie scene up in Dublin and keep my finger on the pulse of what's new and good or s**t. I get responses all the time from friends about gigs and sure I make it up once in a while to...
