4 Replies and 3573 Views Pirate Bay Founders Jailed  3573  4 Started by  Idiot Kid Pirate Bay Founders Jailed for 1 YearAnyone else see this  Is a year in jail really the right response  Isn't it a bit like jailing Toyota if some old lady knocks down somebody in one of their carsI don't agree with illegal downloading myself, did it once but the quality of most of the stuff was so awful I swore I wouldn't do it again, but even to me this seems a bit of an over-reaction.

3 Replies and 2882 Views Indie record shops outside Dublin  2882  3 Started by  aidan Saturday 18 April is World Record Store Day - while we're all familiar now with Road Records in Dublin (especially with the drama of their near-closure), are there any worthwhile record shops in the rest of Ireland Not just high street stores but shops that sell records by local acts and help create a sense of community among musicians and fans in their area.Personally I can't think of any examples apart from Good Vibrations in Belfast. I was on Patrick Street in Cork and spotted F.M. Records -...

4 Replies and 3296 Views Can Irish musicians get decent Promo Videos made on budget?  3296  4 Started by  Keith Sherry As all Irish musicians/bands/song writers will know ... getting their package together on a shoe string budget is a tall task . Rehearsals, Equipment , Gigs , CDs, Websites etc ... A decent promo is another tool many would love to have to showcase their tracks ... But there is just not enough people out there filling this gap . And if there is they are charging prices that most cant afford . How can bands etc get access to these film makers and vice versa . We are crying out for this gap in t...

1 Replies and 2971 Views Why does Japan get the best b-sides?  2971  1 Started by  Iambeave Has anyone got an idea as to why there are so many exciting EPs and lovely extras produced for the Japanese market My personal favourite was getting Radiohead's Itch ordered in to my local music shop when I was in school. I thought I was very elite and exciting altogether. To quote Wiki - 'Itch is an EP by Radiohead, released exclusively to Japan on 1 June 1994.' I know you can get Itch now from Amazon and such, but does anyone know any Japanese releases that still don't get release...

8 Replies and 7688 Views Dry County/Alias Empire: band namechanges  7688  8 Started by  aidan I'm only catching up on this now: Dry County's new name is Alias Empire (and not 'Alien Empire' as I originally wrote and was corrected below), so as to avoid confusion with a US country rock band. (Although there may very well be a good ol' boy hillbilly band called Alias Empire in some corner of Tennessee; who knows)Are there any examples of an established band changing its name and remaining successful The recent Dagger Lees/Stagger Lee split, though perhaps not connected to the name change...

11 Replies and 2876 Views Waltons - shower of ***holes  2876  11 Started by  whiterob81 Was just in music maker and walton's pricing usb/midi keyboards at lunch time. Went into music maker, they couldn't have been more helpful. The woman was explaining all the different options and addons and software available. Went to waltons, fecking useless shower. They were really rude and unhelpful. I went in had a quick look at the keyboards, went over the counter: 'Excuse, I just wanted to ask about the keyboards' 'They're over there' 'Um, Ok, I was just wondering what sort of ...

11 Replies and 2967 Views John Waters on U2 (again)  2967  11 Started by  aidan It wouldn't be new-U2-album time without a John Waters article on their socioreligioculturoaesthetical importance. Basically, he likes the new album. I think:http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper...87052.html You can just picture the giddy Pseud's Corner editor at Private Eye clearing his desk with a dramatic sweep of the hand and telling his secretary 'Cancel all my appointments and order in lunch. This could take all weekend.'

4 Replies and 2883 Views Delorentos split  2883  4 Started by  aidan Icarus just mentioned it on the Dagger Lees thread but it deserves its own thread: Delorentos have announced that they will split up.A shame: great tunes and by all accounts a decent bunch of people. Hopefully they'll be back with new bands and music very soon.

14 Replies and 4747 Views Worst and Best Support Bands ever  4747  14 Started by  whiterob81 I was just talking on another thread about how I saw Robotnik supporting Operator Please a few months ago and how he was great and all. Most times I try and and miss the support act, in the same way that I try and miss the trailers at the start of the film, because generally they're terrible but they're are rare occassions where they nearly top the main act. So does anyone have any memorable support band stories
