Ok, another poll, but ffs, The Libertines at no. 1 and apparantly 50 of the vote. I must be way behind the times. Metallica at no. 8. I would have a problem with too.
The rest, fair enough, I never really got Nirvana or the whole grunge scene in general, but I can see why they are no. 2. They spoke for a generation etc..

Just wondering.
With the huge wealth of knowledge here, it seems such a shame for the website to be so out of date contest wise. The album reviews are ancient, the most recent gig review is over a month old.
From reading posts, plenty of people here have gone to dozens in the meantime.
I understand time constraints etc but would it not be possible to give some posters site privelages and allow to update the content themselves

Van Morrison: Biggest contribution to Irish music? 1493 10

With the mention of astrel weeks in someone elses thread the other day it got me to thinking, is Van Morrission Ireland's best contribution to modern music has any other Irish person/band made as significant contribution to music, over such a long period of time i cant really think of any other person who has produced albums as good as astrel weeks and moon dance. granted his last album wasn't great but am i way off sorry not trying to start any kind of lists.

im gonna be broadcasting on a radio station next week, have been asked to organise a discussion show about the state of the irish music scene/industry. its been done to death with unsigned bands whinging on (and sometimes with justification i may add) but id like do something more original so im looking for inspiration. any ideas on how to flog a dead horse in a new way

Eamonn Carr does a real, delicious knife job on Ryan Adams and his new album '29' in today's Evening Herald. I think the phrase 'vomit writing' is used in relation to (B)Ryan Adams songs. Personally, Eamon doesn't need to convince me but the article is a fun read.

The Arcade Fire and Mercury winner Antony and the Johnsons are among the artists nominated for the inaugural New Pantheon Award in the US.
Billboard reports that the New Pantheon is modelled on the Mercury Music Prize and continues the work of the now-defunct Shortlist Music Prize, honouring albums that have sold less than 500,000 copies in the US.
Irish artist Damien Rice won the Shortlist Music Prize for his album 'O' in 2003.
