Anyone heading along to see Micah P. Hinson? 1121 9
Started by Unicron
Still haven't made my mind up to go yet. Was impressed when he opened for Iron and Wine and the Gospel of Progress is a very good album but the one that came out last year wasn't that great.

Flaming Lips - The Most Boring Band on the Planet 2872 26
Started by Rev Jules
I can't keep quiet about it anymore. I think Flaming Lips are the most boring band on the planet. Even writing their name gives me a dull headache and a cold shiver, the sort I usually get when Pink Floyd, the Lord of the Rings trilogy (book and films), the Star Wars Sexology or Monty Python is mentioned. They try so hard to be interesting, with the silly album titles, animal suits and puppets. Even their leader, Wayne Coyne, looks boring, more like a lecturer in woodwork at a North of England p...

Good pubs/bars? 2633 31
Started by nerraw
Any recommendations hidden gems etc
I tend to frequent the Dice bar which in my humble opinion is one of the best bars in Dublin. Excellent music, relaxed and friendly vibe and great staff.
And last night they had three fantastic looking female djs all doing their best Karen O impression.
Anseo and Carnival are also excellent.

The Ego Of The Critic 2397 23
Started by Gar
Not sure if anybody watched this debate unravel on 'The Big Bite' last week but I thought John Meagher from the Indo made some decent points. The basis of the debate was that some critics have an overblown ego and criticise far too quickly. What Meagher basically said in defence of music critics, is that his job is to tell the reader/viewer/listener what is good and what is not.
But does there come a time when the ego of the critic gets in the way of what they are actually meant to be doing...

Morrissey's new album 1062 9
Started by comet
Anyone had a listen to it yet its getting good reviews but i've listened to it twice now and it certainly hasn't struck any chord with me, i'm not very impressed, I do like a few songs but some of the lyrics sound so laboured and recycled and in fact make me cringe a bit e.g. 'There are explosive kegs, Between my legs', 'I see the world, It makes me puke' and the forgiveness thing in the new single I Have Killed You so soon after the I Have Forgiven Jesus thing.....ah I don't know maybe its bet...

Franz Ferdinand Frontman Shot 1050 0
Started by Gar
Lead singer and guitarist for pop band Franz Ferdinand, Alexander Kapranos, is in critical condition today after being shot by a man identified as the bassist for rock group Gavrilo Princip. 'We ask fans to cooperate with Interpol to find the assailant, and call upon British Sea Power, Snow Patrol, and The Postal Service for help,' drummer Paul Thompson told music magazine NME Monday. 'The suspect had links to The Decemberists and The Libertines, and we are following up on all leads.' It is uncl...
