Mexican Pets, stalwarts of the Dublin music scene for most of the 1990s, have decided to pick up their instruments once more. Currently in the process of writing new material, the band has already lined up a couple of live shows:
Thu 11 May - Roisin Dubh, Galway (as part of Strange Brew – free)
special guests - Large Mound
Fri 12 May - Whelan’s, Dublin (tickets €12)
special guests - The Coldspoon Conspiracy
Named after an urban legend that describes how a Mexican sewer rat is mistaken...

Anyone catching the surf in whelans on sunday. Really looking forward to this gig. Saw them the last 2 times they played, including their first gig in whelans and they were pretty damn good.
The whelans gig was particularily good. Their first time playing and all
3 piece bands eh.. arent they great.

The Coldspoon Conspiracy, I saw them open for The Most Serene Republic last night (who were also very good) and was hugely impressed. Love the way their songs took such dramatic changes in tone, shifting dynamics, mutating paradigms, blah, blah, blah; very good, much better than their album would indicate.

Ever have the urge to pick something up just because of the hype surrounding it and then not buy into what is meant to be so amazing about it For example, buying 'Funeral' by Arcade Fire because most music critics hailed it as a great release but when you got it you just didn't hear what they heard.

Primavera sound music festival (Barcelona) 1575 6

Hey,
So been reading cluas for a good while now but this is my first post. Was wondering if anyone's heard much about this primavera music festival in barcelona.
Some great bands like Animal Collective, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Deerhoof, José González, Jens Lekman and Lou Reed.
Finished college for good at the end of may so was thinking this wouldnt be a bad way to celebrate! Anyone been to it before or know some one who has Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Coldplay lead the shortlist for this year's Ivor Novello songwriting awards, after being nominated in three categories.
The band's hit single 'Fix You' has been nominated for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, while 'Speed of Sound' is nominated for International Hit of the Year and Most Performed Work.

this one's for all of those with connections within ze biz. just wondering what is the best way to go around getting a job as a writer (not to mention some directions on writing) in music - gigs reviews and such. I have worked the menial end of gigs i.e. local crews for roundshire and corporate stuff, but that isn't much of a means to any ends. I know Una works for the tribune, does anyone else have some advice or is it just question of knowing the right person
