21 Replies and 3373 Views My new favourite Irish band may just be ...  3373  21 Started by  Unicron The Coldspoon Conspiracy, I saw them open for The Most Serene Republic last night (who were also very good) and was hugely impressed. Love the way their songs took such dramatic changes in tone, shifting dynamics, mutating paradigms, blah, blah, blah; very good, much better than their album would indicate.

38 Replies and 4646 Views Acts You Just Don't Get....  4646  38 Started by  Gar Ever have the urge to pick something up just because of the hype surrounding it and then not buy into what is meant to be so amazing about it For example, buying 'Funeral' by Arcade Fire because most music critics hailed it as a great release but when you got it you just didn't hear what they heard. Any recent cases of this

Was wondering if anyone's heard much about this primavera music festival in barcelona. Some great bands like Animal Collective, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Deerhoof, José González, Jens Lekman and Lou Reed. Finished college for good at the end of may so was thinking this wouldnt be a bad way to celebrate! Anyone been to it before or know some one who has Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, ...

12 Replies and 1396 Views music press releases  1396  12 Started by  Una 'an incredible body of work' = loads and loads of s**t albums 'often compared to' = this band is not as good as their influences 'over the past decade' = in seven or eight years 'unique voice' = can’t sing 'quirky' – annoying 'talented' – can only play one instrument, but hey, who’s counting 'melodic' – obvious hooks 'at the height of their powers' = it’s not going to get any better than this 'no frills' = no effort

18 Replies and 1978 Views Musical Journey  1978  18 Started by  Vent My Spleen Read an interesting article in Uncut over the weekend by Alex James of Blur fame of all people. He was talking about the musical journey we make and thought that the music we listen to between the years of 16 to 19 is the music that never leaves us through our lives. After that, most of us who don't throw in the passionate towel to embrace James Blunt as our album a year purchase tend to embark on a musical journey backwards. He noted that at 20, he couldn't abide country, now he listens to Hank...

13 Replies and 1483 Views An Industry Question....  1483  13 Started by  elmo95 this one's for all of those with connections within ze biz. just wondering what is the best way to go around getting a job as a writer (not to mention some directions on writing) in music - gigs reviews and such. I have worked the menial end of gigs i.e. local crews for roundshire and corporate stuff, but that isn't much of a means to any ends. I know Una works for the tribune, does anyone else have some advice or is it just question of knowing the right person
