Duke's Special deal
John McGurk
07 May 2006
IT'S the real deal. An Ulster music man has just been snapped up by one of the UK's most influential record companies.
For the man who would be music king, Duke Special has just signed a 'long-term recording deal' with V2 Records.
Duke Special - real name Peter Wilson - has joined the home of chart-topping artists like Stereophonics and Paul Weller and hip, influential ac...

Is Gary Lightbody a good lyricist? 2854 23
Started by obrienian
Ive been listening to the new album and god does that guy want to rhyme alot. Someone tell him its not Nursery Rhymes we want to listen to here. It somehow makes his songs a bit twee. Don't get me wrong its a fine album but they had already in my opinion made a name for themselves, they should have tried new things. It just sounds like Final Straw 2. Not a bad thing but i was expecting something a bit different. Maybe i'm being naive. Maybe they want to be stadium rockstars but bands like REM ne...

Declan 'O Rourke - Since Kyabram 1398 3
Started by alameda
They've re-released 'Since Kyabram' and thrown in a live DVD with it
Have yet to hear the live tracks, am hoping it'll be a bit more inspiring than the re-recorded original tracks from 'Since Kyabram'
They've taken off all the rough edges, toned down the backing vocals and generally taken the soul out of what was (the original recordings at any rate) a genuinely impressive debut album!
I remember something similar happening to Damien Rice a couple of years ago where a batch of his tracks...

Pete Doherty = Genius??? 2985 30
Started by blacksheep
Recently while reading various music mags and newspapers I've noticed
the phenomonen of many journos using the words Pete Doherty and genius
in the same sentence. This week alone Hot Press make the claim on their
front cover and uncut has a Doherty bootleg on heavy rotation in their
offices,a genius offering called 'the freewheelin' pete doherty'.
Now I got no beef with dohertys lifestyle and I can choose whether to
listen to him or not BUT I do have a problem with him being feted as

When's the last time that you were looking forward to an album but were bitterly let down by it when it was eventually released
Most recent case for me is the debut album by White Rose Movement.

New, Unreleased Johnny Cash Material Due
Quanah Humphreys reports:
Given The Man in Black's prolific output, it was inevitable for an avalanche of material to surface after his passing. Now that the parade of greatest-hits packages, soundtracks, and also-rans has temporarily subsided, a pair of releases featuring unreleased Johnny Cash material has a chance to stand out from the deluge of recycled and repackaged material.
American V: A Hundred Highways, culled from sessions Cash was in th...

The Beta Band were one of my favoutite groups ever and i was sad when they broke up despite having a whale of a time at their farewell gig in The Ambassador well over a year ago. Still, i was really looking forward to Steve Mason's solo project - King Biscuit Time. They were due to play in Whelan's on the 15th of May to coincide with the release of their new album 'Black Gold' although this has now been cancelled as Steve has gone a.w.o.l., saying he's quit music and trying to get his head toget...

should the 'best thing I've heard in ages' thread be more at home in the 'Music Reccomendations' section
Most of us just post (out of habit) in 'General Discussion' and its hard to pinpoint what that means. I know that there are other headings under which to post but none of us really take the time to decide where our post should be posted. Maybe its the fear that it won't be read in one of the other sections. Its just one of the disadvantages of Cluas becoming more popular and it'll probabl...
