Help me spend money !!!! 1304 19
Started by John Doe
Got a record token for my birthday and I'm wracked with indecision as to how to spend it.
So I thought, I'll take advantage of the collective wisdom of the Cluas membership to guide me through this difficult decision.
I'm looking for recommendations basically. My usual taste is towards jangly guitar pop with lots of catchy choruses etc. and my current collection would incldue the likes of Aimee Mann, Crowded House, Squeeze, Something Happens, The La's.....you get the picture.

Electric Picnic - The Movie 1436 12
Started by Mully
IN SEPTEMBER 2005 A SMALL CAMERA CREW (NINE HAND-HELDS, NO CRANES) TURNED UP TO CAPTURE THE FLAVOUR OF A FRESH AND ECCENTRIC FACE ON OUR MUSIC SCENE: THE ELECTRIC PICNIC MUSIC FESTIVAL IN STRADBALLY HALL ESTATE IN CO LAOIS. 25,000 OTHER PUNTERS JOINED THEM.
So beautiful is the setting, and so thoughtful the planning, it was said that you could spend three days there and 'never have to sully yourself with the music.' Teepees and Mongolian yurts, meadows of giant coloured flags, burlesque cabar...

JJ72 split 4762 32
Started by comet
They burst on the scene with all the hype and spin of a spiral galaxy but its all gone down the black hole now........where's Hilary these days anyway
A statement from the band reads as follows:
Reader, we are to let thee know,
JJ72's body only lies below;
For could the grave JJ's soul comprise,
Earth would be richer than the skies.
'JJ72 was born during an Easter many seasons ago; today it dies on the cusp of midsummer eleven years later.

Thomas Fraser - Shetland's Country Legend 1102 0
Started by Rev Jules
I know, I know, there was a feature on this guy in the OMM last sunday, and yes, I read it too, nevertheless, he's worth checking out.
Thomas Fraser was born in Burra Isle, Shetland (a remote Scottish Island) in 1927. A natural, he quickly learned to yodel, play fiddle and later, the guitar. Funds from his occupation as a fisherman were used to purchase a reel to reel tape recorder shortly after electricity arrived to the isle in 1953. What took place then has since been called one of the mos...

Antibalas, Fela Kuti 983 0
Started by Daragh
anyone into these heard a best of fela kuti a while ago, and that led on to antibalas.
Its a strange ould mix of funk, jazz, african drumming, politics n the kitchen sink.
Definitely worth a listen ah reckon, but does anyone know of any afrobeat bands playing around dublin Antibalas said that some of their best gigs were in Ireland, partly due to the huge nigerian community, so there has to be something out there...

Not as wonderful as the 'wouldn't it be great if it was true' hoax that was doin' the rounds about Pete Doherty really being a former Buddy Holly impersonator called Trevor McDermott who fabricated the whole Dohery myth but, it is mildly amusing. Like Q magazine is mildy entertaining.
