Mercury Music Prize shortlist 8110 70
Started by Una
it's out on Tuesday.
I predict nods in the direction of:
Corinne Baily Rae
Lily Allen
Plan B
Guillemots
Futureheads
Thom Yorke
Arctic Monkeys
I'm sure the judges will find some obscure English connection to Regina Spektor's granny or something similar as well.

Why did my post get moved? 1354 2
Started by stroller
I posted a link earlier to where you can download the new Rapture single and it got moved to the Plug Bands, Releases, Recordings, Websites, etc. section. I'm not trying to plug the Rapture. It's not like I'm their cowbell player or anything. I just thought that the people who frequent this board might be interested in hearing it.

Our band could be your life 1362 18
Started by Unicron
Anyone read it
I picked it up on Sunday and I've found it to be enthralling reading. I'm nearing the end of chapter 2 at the minute so it's only covered 2 bands I've never listened to (Black Flag and hte Minuteman, in the latter case a band I'd never even heard of) but it's fascinating stuff. Mission Of Burma, who I love, is up next and if that chapter is as good as what when before then I'll be very happy.

The CLUAS guide to better writing 1144 0
Started by admin
Having seen over the years a number of poorly written articles that were submitted to the site I always thought that a writing guide would be a valuable addition to CLUAS in order to guide writers (both new and existing) towards better written articles. Of course like the vast majority of ideas I come up with I did absolutely nothing about it and no such writing guide was ever added to the site. Until now that is.
Yes, our man in Paris Aidan Curran has out together a writing guide tailored t...

Am I to be dammed to hell for the utterances I am about to put to ones and zeros For the past few months something has been banging around my cranium and I have been too fearful utter it in public before, but it has come to a traumatic, crashing end over the last few weeks. The terrible secret that I have held within is that (wait for it), I don’t like Johnny Cash’s music, before his last few fantastic albums with Rick Rubin. Am I a freak

Sufjan is coming back 1555 11
Started by Unicron
Olympia, November 1
No idea when tickets are on sale. His upcoming US tour is a seated affair with a string section so I wouldn't be surprised if they left the seats in for this one which would make it a very hot ticket.
Then again the other venues on the tour (The Acadamy in Manchest and the Paradisso in Amsterdam) would go agains thet thinking.

Syd Barrett R.I.P 4585 10
Started by mainline
Syd Barrett, the former lead singer of Pink Floyd and one of the key
figures of the 60s, has died at the Cambridgeshire home to which he
retreated as a recluse more than 30 years ago.
The Guardian has learned that the singer, 60, who suffered from a
psychedelic-drug induced breakdown while at the peak of his career,
died last Friday from complications related to diabetes.
His brother Alan confirmed his death, saying only: 'He died peacefully
at home. There will be a private family fun...

Possible new acts for Electric Picnic? 1429 0
Started by stroller
I stumbled across a British festival called Foundation which is being held on the same weekend as Electric Picnic. I checked the line up and both Coldcut and Pendulum are playing both festivals so I'd say that there's a fair chance that a few more of the acts booked for Foundation will end up playing Electric Picnic as well. I'm especially hoping that J-Live and Pharahoe Monch will pop up at EP since they're going to be over this side of the Atlantic for the weekend anyways.
You can check out t...

Can someone with the right friends find out if there will be the obligatory bundle of tickets released before the fest itself Also I read on C4 teletext that Broken Social Scene are splitting which means this'll probably be their last gig here. Three in a row ain't bad though, mostly due to their brillinatness

Kasabian on Fri night, spirit 1544 4
Started by nerraw
Absolutely fantastic, they completed rocked it.
Spirit is a fantastic venue, even smaller than expected due to the stage taking up a large part of the dance floor. I would imagine there were about 2/300 there with plenty of space.
Their new stuff sounded pretty good and their old songs caused quite an impressive mosh pit. Played for about 90mins, possibly less. Think they finished on LSF which was great fun.
One of the gigs of the year for me.

Christ what a disaster of a day on Saturday for Oxegen
Like everyone else got completely and utterly soaked and bloody cold too
Did get to see a few bands early in the day but after passing a few tents where bizarrely every band sounded like Placebo, I began to lose the will to live, so at that point decided to cut my losses and get out before being Molko'd to death
How did everyone else get on
<awaits barrage of abuse from hardened festival types and Placebo fans>

2006: The Summer Of Too Many Music Festivals 1644 12
Started by Gar
This summer has to be one of the busiest on these shores for outdoor live music events for quite some years now. Every week a new festival seems to be cropping up and offering as many perks as possible for you to hand over the cash for an over-priced ticket. Some of these festivals seem to be failing lately and it's not really a surprise. A simple case of over exhausting the festival-going market is halting the expected cash flow into the pockets of eager promoters.
Surely organisers didn't ex...

Roxy Music last night 1197 2
Started by Dromed
Went to see Roxy Music last night in Vicar Street - absolutely amazing gig! PLayed 'Bogus Man', 'Editions of You', 'Out of the Blue', 'Love is the Drug' (naturally!) and loads more old stuff - band were amazing and the atmosphere was great. Didn't play 'Ladytron' or 'In Every Dream Home' which was a bit of a bummer, but was worth every frickin penny to stand at the feet of one my idols, the fabulous Mr. Brian Ferry!!!!!!!!
