Upgrade to discussion board - big mistake? 2107 9
Started by vandala
I guess this isn't what you want to hear, but this is a nightmare. I can only respond to a post by indicating 'abuse'. I have to pick some kind of weird kind of style to even post this comment. I'm sorry, but I really I don't like these changes. I can see nothing advantageous whatsoever.
Please tell me what I'm missing, Eoghan; I've been around long enough for you to know I ain't a shyster.

Albums that make you smile when they pop up on your MP3 player 1727 8

Gene Clark - No Other
I just adore this album. It came on my MP3 player on the way to work this morning and I didn't want the journey to end. Clark, of course, made his name in the Byrds but it's really this album that is his masterpiece. He spent a fortune crafting 8 tunes in the studio, making music he described as 'cosmic country'. Beautiful choral harmonies, a gorgeous lush sound and Clark's rolling melodies just make this album a delight.
Anyone else know and love this record
And add to...

Some very interesting stuff there.
But, of course, the most intriguing is the positive review for Damo!
How are the CLUAS cognoscenti going to react to that... ;-)

Robert Smith - most influential vocalist of the 00's? 1278 0

Isn't he everywhere!
Sunset Rubdown, Grizzly Bear, The Rapture... all decidedly average bands (but with potential) but all possessing a high pitched, sometimes offkey, impression of old Crow's Nest himself.

Guardian article: 50 great unknown albums 1926 6
Started by aidan
Loads of brilliant articles on The Guardian's website always, but in the music section they have a couple of really fascinating ones (if you haven't already seen them):
First, they asked 49 musicians/writers to each nominate an album that they love which is completely unrecognised and unknown by the wider public (the article is in two parts):
http://arts.guardian.co.uk/filmandmusic/story/0,,1888085,00.html
http://arts.guardian.co.uk/filmandmusic/story/0,,1888086,00.html
Then they asked ...

Is There A Blizzard Ahead For Dave Pennefather!!!? 4574 18

Is there a Blizzard ahead for Dave Pennefather !!
In an article in this issue of Hotpress there is an interview with Mr Dave Pennefather of Universal fame. Unfortunately Dave thinks his fame is Universal and walks and talks with an air of smugness that that is only held by Royalty, Now while Dave deserves genuine respect for his work in the music business many years ago, I have to draw the line after this piece of literacy genius, and voice my views… (which many share, but are too chick...

This is interesting...mmmm, stroke chin and think about this.
Reader David Wright says: 'If China In Your Hand by T'Pau had been penned by Oasis, would it be regarded as a classic Is it our prejudice about artists that makes us disregard lost classics simply because they were written and recorded by artists who are now past it or regarded as uncool If 'Walk Of Life' by Dire Straits had been written and recorded by Johnny Cash and appeared on 'Live At St. Quentin' it would however be regar...

Uncut's Top 50 albums of the year 2143 15

Am I the only one who doesn't really see the logic of publishing your top 50 albums of the year two months before the year's over Anyway they gave album of the year to Bob Dylan so no surprises there. I was surprised however to see that none of the following bands made the top 50;
Mark Lanegan & Isobel Campbell
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Broken Social Scene
Tapes'n'Tapes
The Rapture
Islands
The Spinto Band
Final Fantasy
My Latest Novel
Cut Chemist
The Decemberists
The Long Blondes

I'm heading up to the big smoke on Tuesday for the TV On The Radio gig and I was just wondering if anyone can recommend any decent clubs or late bars to head to afterwards. Preferably one that plays either indie, soul & funk or reggae and ska.
