best Irish outdoor gigs or festivals (ever) 2177 1
Started by bad intentions
Hi folks,
I'm doing an article on this topic and just wanted to see what the consensus is out there in internet land.
Any thoughts appreciated. The Popes Visit was obviously the best. Fr. Michael Clery and the Chieftans. Deadly.

Digital Radio in Ireland 2303 1
Started by Mully
Digital radio is coming to Ireland, with a new working group consisting of RTÉ, Today FM and Newstalk and others helping to make it a reality.
Digital radio services, which need a Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) radio to enable reception, are already taking off in the UK, where 7.45million sets have been sold.
With its popularity increasing because of its benefits over analogue radio - such as no fuzziness, and a screen which tells you what station, show and song you’re listening to ...

well i dont know about anyone else but i was hella happy to hear that these two bands are playing at the Ambassador on 5th and 17th of May respectively.
I have seen Evan Dando twice before - one average acoustic Midnight at the Olympia gig years ago where he wanted to fight an audience member and one brilliant set with full band in some dingy, tiny venue in Edinburgh about 3 years ago. Im really excited at seeing this band in full for the first time, as they have got some fantastically si...

Having been convinced that Alex Turner is the best songwriter to come of England since Morrissey, I had high hopes for the new album. First impressions are not good though. The cracking lyrics are there but the tunes just aren't doing it for me yet. Any other opinions

Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan: split!! 5354 6
Started by aidan
Somebody call Barry Egan in the Sindo!!!!
From the NME website:
Damien Rice has split with long-time vocalist Lisa Hannigan.
The news ends a musical partnership which lasted six years, and will come as a shock to Rice's legion of fans, as Hannigan had long been an integral part of Rice's backing band, particularly in his live performances.
Hannigan supplied vocals to both of Rice's two albums - 2001's 'O' and last year's '9'.
An official statement read 'Aft...

Olympia returns to full strength 2314 1
Started by Mully
The canopy that once welcomed guests to the Olympia venue in Dublin is set to make a comeback.
The Minister of Arts, Sports and Tourism, John O’Donoghue, will today reveal the final stages are in progress to restore the glass canopy, seen in the pic on the right.
It had been a key feature of the venue since it opened in 1897. However it was damaged when a truck drove into it in 2004.
Since then, it has been in the hands of specialists in Scotland, who are close to bringing i...

White Stripes to play Ireland??? 2120 2
Started by da reilly
I don’t suppose anyone has heard anything about The White Stripes playing Ireland soon I haven’t either, but I’m always up for starting a rumour.
I’ve just been checking out their website and they are playing in Paris on June 11th before playing Hyde Park in London on the 14th and 15th. Surely some music-loving-non-money-grabbing promoter could get them over for a gig here on the 12th or 13th Malahide Castle could be option with the Arctic Monkeys playing there a few days after.
