Oxegen 2007: your highlights? 9143 21
Started by hearty
Enjoyable weekend, tried very hard to see as many bands as possible, but it was often quite difficult with the conditions.
didn't see any trouble, although there was quite a bit of mud throwing and things like that. i also think i got a veggie burger thrown at the back of my head. Saturday was much much better for me than Sunday, on which i think it just got a little much.
excellent:
the holdsteady
delorntos
Kings of Leon - oddly paced set however i found
Tori Amos - a high...

Why so many summer festivals? 5162 10
Started by Peejay
This isn't a complaint, just curious. Years ago you could probably count on one hand the music festivals going on across Ireland in the summer. There was a few major ones and then some small town festivals that didn't really draw much apart from the locals.
It seems like everyones on the bandwaggon now, and even the former local 'back of a truck' ones are drawing big names (Midlands festival in Mullingar). Good news for musicians, I'm sure, and good news for us too, we have m...

Michael O'Hara knocks the Doors 2797 8
Started by Peejay
Starting a thread with a s**t pun is probably not the way to go, but if you're reading this then you've clicked it anyway, so stay! Hopefully it gets better.
I'm just responding to Mr. O'Haras very entertaining but hugely one-sided review of the Doors recent Greatest Hits (link to full review is below). We don't need another Greatest Hits, I'd agree with that but I thought the band themselves might be worth a discussion.
For me, the Doors are a bit l...

Your What is this?!? moment. 5066 22
Started by Peejay
You hear some music that hits all the right buttons and until you find out who it is, whatever you were just doing takes a backseat.
It’s a great feeling. It could be the beginning of a long, exhausting, financially crippling relationship with your new favourite band - that’s if you're lucky - or it could just be a one-off song from a band or artist that ordinarily you wouldn't bother with.
I wish I had the 'moment' more. Despite listening to a lot of new music on the radio/internet (...

Ticket*ast*rd and HWCH 1918 3
Started by John Doe
I see Ticket*ast*rd have got their grubby little hands on the Hard Working Class Hero festival. I hope Road Records and the few other remaining indie record shops are selling tickets as well because the thought of giving those c**ts more of my hard earned is putting me off going to the HWCH at all.

bored with whats on the radio 2308 7

Is it just me or do all the new bands coming out now sound the same
I had the radio on the other day while I was stuck in traffic for two bleedin hours and I got to the point where I wondered if it was still the same song I was hearing or was it just the same band It turned out I had heard 3 different bands in a row that all sounded so alike I wanted to cry. I think they were all called 'THE' something or others too. I guess bands are running out of good names too eh

Who sings this tune Phantom FM keep playing? 6290 33
Started by John Doe
There's a song I've heard loads of times on Phantom but I don't know the name of the band. They're American and I think the name of the song is 'I'm Popular'. It's basically like an instrumental with this guy ranting about being in high school and being popular with the jocks, getting dumped by his girlfriend etc. It's really good. Any takers

Feuding Through Music: A History 2247 5
Started by Norman Schwarzkopf
At the mention of the presence of a pigeon on a nearby roof, I began singing 'No Pigeons', whereupon my workmate and I began to discuss musical 'ripostes'. (No Scrubs V. No Pigeons) People who replied to someone elses song through song.
He suggested 'Southern Man' by Neil Young versus 'Sweet Home Alabama' by Skynyrd.
Can anyone think of any others (Apart from 'F.U.' and 'F.U.R.B'....)

I'd just like to clear up some troublesome rumours which have been flying around Dublin City this past while.
I can categorically deny that any of the Urges are using heroin. PERIOD!
Now that that is cleared up we can all get on with our lives.

I dunno about anyone else, but I'm f**kin bored of most of the 'new' acts etc around at the moment, and I think that the pariochial style journalism that accompanies it does nothing except massage the egos of bedroom rock stars.
