Whelans in good music in the club shocker. 2650 9
Started by Unicron
Went to Handsome Furs on Friday night (very good, really enjoyed it) and hung around for the club afterwards. It was the first time I'd done that since it reopened and I was shocked at what I heard, a good chunk of the music was from the last 18 months or so. I didn't hear any Pixies or Smiths which was nice but all the same a bit unsettling after years of going there and being bombarded by them. Have they instituted a new music policy to go with the new building I hope so. Or perhaps the ...

Great article in new york magazine, mostly youtube videos with some text as well of Dylan talking total bollox, although there are some rare lucid moments.

Police- old rumour 1972 7
Started by boxstar
So I have this friend and she told me this story/rumour. I dont believe it at all for a number of reasons which I'll get into but it nags at me. The problem is that she is normally a reasonable person and she is so insistent in a laid back, I know better type of way, that I'm left wondering if anone else has ever heard this story. The story is that The Police actually recorded Zenyatta Mondatta in Ireland and not in the Netherlands and that an Irish producer produced it, not Nigel Gray. This sto...

Oasis: Split Up Now. 2024 2
Started by Quint
Anyone heard the new single Absolute tripe. Even before I heard it I knew it was going to be dire, and it is. It's like a really poor copy of 'Lyla', yes- that bad. Noel Gallagher, creatively, is a spent force. After the sheer brilliance of their first 2 albums, the quality of the music since has taken a serious nose-dive.... If only they had split after 'Morning Glory' their legacy would be undamaged and people would be crying out for a reformation, etc...but I think they've ruined their good...

HWCH: How was it for you ? 2960 14
Started by John Doe
I only went on Saturday night, where I saw:
Declan De Barra: I'm not really into the whole singer / songwriter thing but he has a cracking voice and did a great number in the style of Nusret Fatah Ali Khan ( Quawali singing, I think it's called ) which was interesting.
The Chakras: I was not impressed. Average tunes and their singer badly needs some singing lessons if their last song was anything to go by.
Marybell Katastrophe: One of the Scandinavian bands. N...

Time to box my CDs up 5840 26
Started by klootfan
I posted a while back about this. Id just bought an iRiver 40gb Mp3 player and my CDs were beginning to gather dust. At the time I was still buying CDs from shops. So I was a little reluctant about doing something about the mound of dust gathering.
Now I own an 80gb iPod.. more then enough to store all my music, and if its not, well heck, they reckon by the end of next year a 240gb HD will be available.
So now im staring again at those racks of CDs which never get ...

I Can't Stop Listening To God Is An Astronaut. 5658 9

Seriously, It's almost turning into an obsession. I've been mainlining their music straight into my brain stem through iPod, home stereo and in the car. I don't know what it is but their music seems endlessly replayable, I never get sick of it...They have 3 albums and 1 EP and the quality across the all 4 is remarkable, very dark yet incredibly atmospheric..saw them in the Tripod back in April and the visuals/Music combination was pretty mindblowing. I've a weakness for post-rock/instrumental/am...

Highest Bands In Ireland split 7 2486 5
Started by M-wav
On Tuesday March 27th two Cork based bands, Ten Past Seven and Los Langeros scaled the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrantouhil, in an effort to bring contemporary Irish music to new heights. Both bands performed a piece of music at the summit in front of an audience consisting of three bewildered English mountaineers and an onlooking mountain goat.
The idea was conceived as part of a plan to release a split single during the summer. Before recording together the bands felt that some fre...

Music City Dun Laoghaire Shuts its Doors 2608 0
Started by klootfan
Music City Dun Laoghaire has been closing now for a while. Walked passed it today and its doors were shut so it looks like its over and done with.
As far as I know there were only the 2 Music City's, this one and the Rathmines one. While expensive at times they did often have a bit of variety on show. Effectively it means that either I restrict my music shopping to saturdays in town or iTunes gets a little more money from me. I reckon iTunes will win out.
sad to see another music ...
