On another thread here, Dave Fanning was listed as one of the top 5 knobs in Irish music. As most people who grew up in the eighties would agree, Fanning was pretty much the only dj on Irish radio who championed alternative music. Of course, his 90 mph delivery, crap interviewing technique and forrays into television and his sycophantic slobbering around Bono through the nineties did his reputation no good but I think his contribution to music here is often overlooked.

hi all mick here from da 2 .just being reading all the rumors to do with the da 2 first of all my apologies to high rise and all the bands we had to cancel while we had to close...the reason we had to shut was because our ceiling from the upstairs venue contacting the downstairs bar started to form a serious crack in it so we had to shut because we thought it had become to unsafe. we had to put up 3 support beams while were getting our new floor put in for sat...the situation with the noise limi...

In a poncey D4 accent: 'The Sugar Club. A proper music venue, not just a glorified bar!'
Are they for real Proper music venues don't charge what they do for drinks, they don't just slap bands on on their quiet nights and they don't have a fukking dress code!

I see that Ms Dynamite scooped the award this year. In a strange twist, she was pretty much the favourite with the bookies despite widespread belief that The Streets were a shoe in.
I'm not a big fan of awards but always thought that the Mercury was a step above the rest. However, the appear to have responded to criticism in recent years that they have ignored new musical genres by giving it to the most pop/garage album on the shortlist. To anyone that hasn't had the bad fortune to see it first hand...can I fill you in on the terrible state of affairs that has turned Da2 into a farce......The venue is being brought to Court (today actually) over the level of sound comng from the building so a sound gauge of sorts has been put in place (you may remember this from a thread on the Thing's Robbie Brady doing a DIY job on it before)...well the gauge barely takes 100db before it cuts the power off.
