9 Replies and 2645 Views Death to the Pixies?  2645  9 Started by  Brain of G The Pixies are set to reform. Hopefully they'll visit Ireland where I'll get to see one of the last great bands perform - an opportunity I thought I'd never get. I persume I'm not the only one sharing this joy!

8 Replies and 2378 Views Band Meltdown  2378  8 Started by  eddiesheridan Seeing great bands like Hi-Rise and Listo breaking up pisses me off no end.In most of Europe there is help for bands to cover the costs of touring and recording but over here bands get jack sh*t.Things are bad for bands out there and its getting worse. A musicians union is badly needed to get on top of this but instead, the present musicians union looks to me like it just looks after the needs of trad musicians.A union should be vocal,I hear all the time about train drivers unions and the like b...

27 Replies and 6637 Views On the Flip side....Under rated Bands  6637  27 Started by  Eric Its a terrible shame when great talent does not get the attention it deserves..... Its subjective but my nominations would be: Cream - people know the songs but not the artists ie Jack Bruce who wrote Sun Shine of Your Love, White Room, I feel Free many more. Snow Patrol - I think Gary Lightbody is one of the finest song writers around and still they have a small following. Red House Painters - being honest I can understand how if people find these guys too depressing but front man Mark K...

11 Replies and 3360 Views Art or Arse?  3360  11 Started by  Dromed I've just read an article in Hotpress (ahem...Sshhhh I know I know!)on the artist Sebastian Horsley. Horsely is famous for courting controversy - most notably for being the first westerner to take part in the Easter crucifixion ceremony in the Philippines, which he documented and toured as an exhibition called The Butterfly Pinned. Anyway, Horsely has gone a step further and sent his friends (among which he counts Nick Cave and Wil Self)his own xmas cards with a picture of him having sex with a ...

34 Replies and 9670 Views What's the most overrated album of all time?  9670  34 Started by  Q2 Howdy all, What are the most overrated albums of all time In my humblest of opinions, 1. U2 - The Joshua Tree Why is that considered such a classic I find it pretty average to tell you the truth. I thought All That You Can't Leave Behind wasn't great either, but I can't fault Achtung Baby, that's a great album 2. Damian Rice - O At the risk of being unpopular I know, but I've tried to listen to this record about 10 times and could never make it to the end of it before...

2 Replies and 1528 Views Bands changing names...  1528  2 Started by  john@soundweb.ie So it seems that 'Derrick Devine & the Good Ship' have now become 'Ellison 9' (mutiny and democratic overthrow on the Good Ship perhaps! George Bush would be so proud) and The 66 Electric (whose demo & single 'I died in a movie' I absolutely love) have become either 'Conscience of the King' OR simply '66E' according to recent postings. Can anyone shed some light on the above, and indeed while we are at it, who else has changed their moniker recently (um, Babelfish=Alphastates for one)

8 Replies and 3068 Views Hatchet job time... Worst album of the year?  3068  8 Started by  stephen Hey all... time to sharpen those pens and draw blood from the album that you regretted buying the most... the album that promised so much like a beautiful woman but ended up delivering you a dose of the clap. To start.... Fever To Tell - Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I should have known. When the Evening Standard article I read on this up and coming band concentrated more on the lead singer's dress sense than the music, alarm bells should have been clanging away. 'Exuberant', 'angular'... words faw...

0 Replies and 1876 Views Bless you Cluas writers (& the Dylan Gig)  1876  0 Started by  Q2 Howdy all, This is inspired by the Bob Dylan thread, and after reading Brian Farrelly’s Dylan article on cluas, I took the initative to read Eugene Moloney’s version of events in the independent. Some interesting quotes: EM: “a voice that has grown from its one-time, youthful, nasal twang into something approaching a rich, life-filled growl.” BF: “Bob's vocals are the most raspy, guttural whine I have ever heard.” EM: “But it was the voice that gripped from the outset.” “ea...

16 Replies and 2923 Views 8 Ball/ Neosupervital  2923  16 Started by  Dromed Went to see 8 Ball on Monday last - they were brilliant, anticipating their debut album coming out early 2004, should be a cracker...if you haven't seen this band then you should! Their like a cross between Avalanches, Royskopp and Gomez with really really good tunes. Neosupervital was supporting and, hadn't seen him before and was greatly impressed, dude got up on his own with a groove box type set up, beats, keys and electric guitar and did his thing. He engaged the crowd well, cracked a few j...
