3 Replies and 2823 Views cd copy protection  2823  3 Started by  jmmcd that cdwow topic reminds me. the one time i bought from them, it was radiohead's hail to the thief, and it had that copy-protection scheme which makes it: 1. unplayable on computers other than windows and macs 2. uncopiable to mp3 players 3. very annoying to play even on windows cdwow were very good about it and took it back no problem. it was radiohead's label, parlophone, which was experimenting with the scheme for the european edition of the cd. will this scheme make people more or...

32 Replies and 5507 Views The Big Read  5507  32 Started by  Dromed I've just finished reading the book 'Vernon God Little' by DBC Pierre. It's been one of the best books I've read in ages...took me through a range of emotions, was equally disturbing and hilarious, some great writing and a central character that you can't help but love, I couldn't put it down til I got to the end...so my question is do any of you have suggestions as to some other good books you have all been reading What's been keeping you up at night If you'd to pick your top 3 books what wo...

12 Replies and 3543 Views IRMA vs. CDWOW  3543  12 Started by  Binokular IRMA have taken action against website CDWOW which used to be able CDs for around 14 Euro. They will now have to sell CDs at higher prices. This really sucks for music fans, because now we have to pay more for new release/chart CDs. As far as I can see it does not benefit Irish artists either because the CDs were legit, and royalties were being paid (admittedly at lower far east rates). Whats more, the vast majority of the CDs sold on CDWow were not by Irish artists anyway. The only people this ...

18 Replies and 5598 Views Cool album sleeves  5598  18 Started by  Q2 Howdy all, What's your favourite album sleeve/artwork/cd stomp/whatever My favourites: 1) the self-titled 'Metallica' one (or Black whatever it's called, the one with Enter Sandman on it) Deadly glossy finish on it depicting mug-shots and all that. Even though my love for Metallica died with my teenage years, it's cool 2) Quiet like 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots' by the Flaming Lips too. Read somewhere that was done by a Japanese artist. 3) Also like 'New Adventures ...

2 Replies and 1584 Views Sunday World and its hypocracy  1584  2 Started by  eddiesheridan Reading the Sunday World today about yer man who started off the lapdancing clubs in Ireland and how these girls were being exploited was one thing, then later on in page 88 in the sports section was a half page advert for honeyz lapdancing club, was astounding. The Sunday World has no problem pontificating about these clubs on the one hand and then takes money off them to advertise the place to attract more customers. The hypocracy stinks. ' King Of Sleaze ' the front page screamed about this...

1 Replies and 1658 Views bands who sing hyerh instead of here  1658  1 Started by  jmmcd don't you hate it when bands sing 'hyerh' instead of 'here'. y'know, kind of whispery, overemotive vocals tom dunne just played a good example: snow patrol. grandaddy do it a bit too. but the worst culprits are the thrills.

22 Replies and 5975 Views CDs in your collection that embarrass you...  5975  22 Started by  Q2 Howdy all, I've decided to write this topic knowing that I will probably lose any shred of respect I have on this board. My question is: What CDs are you embarrassed to say you own My collection is almost 400-strong so suffice it to say I've a few: Bryan Adams - Reckless What's even worse is that I still kinda like it Robbie Williams - His first one, whatever it's called Sweet Jesus, what was I thinking I suppose he wasn't as big or successful or so obviously a tw...

13 Replies and 3552 Views Great albums discovered by accident.....  3552  13 Started by  Q2 Howdy all, Don't you just love it when you discover great albums without intention/knowledge and completely by accident I have 2 recent examples of this: 1. Cast - Mother Nature Calls Back in November, I was asked to do a 20 minute presentation on one of Dublin's local radio stations which was fine except 2 DJs never showed up. (One of them who was supposed to be on after me) So the station manager asked me to continue on and I ended up DJing for over 2 hours. The only pro...

6 Replies and 3266 Views Help - Buying music software  3266  6 Started by  Binokular I'm thinking of buing some music software from Turnkey www.turnkey.uk.com. They have Reason 2.5 for 315 euros which seems reasonable. anyone have any experience of dealing with this company customer service, delivery etc. Or can anyone suggest a reputable retailer that delivers to Ireland where I can get a cheap copy of Reason 2.5 Ebay is out of the question after some dodgy bloke tried to sell me pirate versions.

9 Replies and 2537 Views Republic of Loose  2537  9 Started by  klootfan I wandered into tower records one saturday after seeing a sign outside the door saying that 'The Republic of Loose' were doing an afternoon show. Id heard of the name before, but i hadnt heard any of their music. From the moment the lead singer struggled onto the stage (he looked like he had been up on the beer all night) i was hooked on these Guys. So much energy and so funny. It was supposed to be the launch of their single, but Tower hadnt got it in, so the lead singer kept telling ...
