Do politics and music mix ? 2361 11
Started by Rev Jules
The news that on the 19th of June organisers from The Irish Anti War Movement will hold a 'Anti Bush' concert in the Point Depot begs the question...do politics and music mix
Of course, there is great political music, 'Blowing In The Wind', 'Rock The Casbah', 'Born In The USA', 'God Save The Queen', 'I Ain't Gonna Play Sun City' and there are great musicians with strong political beliefs such as Billy Bragg and Woody Guthrie...but should musicians with no overt political edge or element to...

Them Chalets 1326 0
Started by Botbot
Just a quickie to let you know about a few things The Chalets are up to.
We have begun recording our debut album which will be released on Setanta/Nastypop later on in the year.
In the meantime we have some weird and wonderful gigs coming up.
We’ll be travelling to London next Wednesday (9th June) to open up for The Lilys in the Metro. We’ll also be recording a few songs for an Xfm session to be broadcast at a date sometime in the not so distant future. We’ll keep you posted about it.

Eoghan,
Printed under your lovely photo taken at the 50th birthday bash photo gallery:
'On the night our rushed back-of-an-envelope estimation of the amount raised (6,000 Euros) was a bit more than the final amount raised (which was 4,920 Euros to be exact.)'
I notice it was an AIB cheque, that would explain the excessive service charges of €1,080 then eh

Your Choice for an Irish Super Group? 3485 6
Started by Lucera
right, all this best albums and best band stuff got me thinkin. Which hurt a little for a minute.
I'm sure we're all familiar with conversations among musicians about who the best drummer/guitar player/singer/bass player etc is alive/ was ever, how about a few ideas for the ideal Irish 'Super group' (Copyright for use of this term belongs to the 1970's)
Personally I'm not too fussy on the definition of 'Irish' for the sake of a light hearted discussion, (although considering the upcoming refe...

How popular are the Waterboys in Ireland (Does Mike Scott live there)
He's a big idol of mine, since I was a teen. Not very well known in the States. Most people would probably recognize 'Whole of the Moon' but couldn't tell you who sang it, I'm guessing.

For the sake of discussion. Last 3 Albums bought..
50 Foot Wave E.P.
Kristin Hersh's new project. Quality 6 Track ep at only 8.99. how bad. A lot heavier then the throwing muses stuff. Apparently she has been listening to a lot of the QOTSA lately.
Seafood - As the cry flows.
3rd album from seafood. A lot more mellow then their previous stuff but good all the same. Apparently the lead singer has been in and out of hospital with a collapsed lung.
Grant Lee Philips - Virgina Creeper

Here Comes the Night - whats the real story? 2557 3

Any fans of Donal Dineens old Today FM show 'here comes the night'
I used to listen to this show quite a lot, definitely a great show to drift off to or just nice to listen to when suffering from my regular insomnia. Then all of a sudden it disappeared, not unusual I thought, as Donal Dinneen would often take a week or two off. When I finally heard Donal Dineen again, it was a different show called 'small hours' scheduled as the name suggests after midnight. Really annoying because the start...
