The English and the Irish 1381 17
Started by vandala
While it may seem blatantly obvious, there really does seem to be something in the observation that, when it comes to humour in any case, there's a marked difference between the English and the Irish.
As I'm now living in the UK, I've had recourse to have a look at a number of music forums similar, at least in design, to this website. Have to admit, I find them...bizarre. Here's a sample:

Any thoughts

Guinness ad. 1338 8
Started by Hudyanika Bolokov
Can anyone tell me who sings the song on the guinness ad where the bloke in the boozer decides to get rid of his telly, and then says 'Now we've got something to talk about'.
And also the song from the Bailey's ad where they're all floating around in the gravity bar. I'd much appreciate it.

People of Ireland, I lofffff yoooo!
I'm absolutely new to this board thing, a friend in the states recommended Cluas.ie, I just got a computer and internet access and am a big fan of Irish Music and the Irish Music scene (not Oirish by the way!). I've spent most of last night and this morning reading all the stuff you have going on and it's amazing.
What are the other sites, my friend also recommended irishunsigned.com but it's a bit dead, I'm not a frames groupie and I'm not paying to us...

CLUAS Opinon - Politics and Rock music 1637 2
Started by eoghan
The 2nd CLUAS 'Opinion' piece was published this morning. It explores that place where rock music and politics intersect. It is a particuarly timely piece considering the US Presidential election next week. And who better to write it than John Ford, CLUAS.com's man in San Diego A man who also not only has a vote next week in the US election but also just happens to be an ardent John Kerry, John Lennon and Joe Strummer fan Check it out here:

The Whelan's Lock-in Crowd 4546 32
Started by bonzo
I got thinking reading the KT thread and the reference to the ‘Whelan’s lock-in crowd’. A couple of questions:
Who are all the members I think Kitt, Mundy, Glen, Declan O’Rourke, Casey etc.
How did they all get successful
Does this clique hamper other up and coming talents
Did this insular view of the music world hamper the clique’s careers

Legendary radio DJ John Peel dies 1707 15
Started by amawaster
Just saw this, in shock
Veteran BBC broadcaster John Peel has died at the age of 65, while on holiday in Peru.
Peel, whose radio career spanned 40 years, was on a working holiday in the resort of Cuzco with his wife Sheila when he suffered a heart attack.
He was BBC Radio 1's longest-serving DJ and in recent years had also presented Home Truths on Radio 4.
Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt said Peel's contribution to modern music and culture was 'immeasurable'.

Any of y'all watching 'Later With Jools Holland' earlier this week will probably have caught an amazing performance from a young Scottish singer called KT Tunstall. Forget the 'heat' around 'Rice-Lite' fellas like Declan O'Rourke, this gal is the real thing.
Check her out on

Best Album you ever lost/damaged 1294 5
Started by Binokular
After much searching, I've resigned myself to the fact that I've lost my copy of Miss Kittin 'i-Com'. Really annoying because it was a great album, and I was even palnning to review it for Cluas eventually (yeah I know, ages after its been released, I'm the great procrastinator, at least now I have an excuse for not reviewing it).
Nearly as annoying as the time my copy of Lunas' Live album got scratched right on my favourite track.
So anyway, over to you, whats the best album you've ever ...

Irish band to play wembley in 2006 1495 4
Started by thethirdplace
well hello...
now if 'the odds' can 'play the point' (capacity 8,000 ish) & some upstart Irish Band can headline one of our most pretigious venues the olympia (capacity 2,000 ish)then I have decided to form a band and rent Wembley for summer 2006.
Tickets will be on sale via s**ttymaster 75 euro which i think is fair for such a gig. We'll be doing a warm up in mikeleen o muairacho's in ballyroobogster this week. Support from Nuala & the bin bags.. sure wit a bita practice weeeee'll have we...
