Musical discovery of 2004 3986 21
Started by Unicron
Whats the best act that you discovered this year that you never heard before that.
For me it's a band from New Jersey called the wrens that I've mentioned here a few times. Other than that depending on whether or not it was january or late december that my mate Dessie thrust a CD-R into my hand and said 'give this a listen, I think you'll really like it' (he does this now and again, he's usually right) I'd also mention Sufjan Stevens.
Also TV on the Radio.

Republic of loose tomorrow 1130 2
Started by klootfan
Apparently the republic of loose will be showing the results of their newly recorded video for 'Girl im going to f**k you up' as a backdrop to their gig in the ambassador tomorrow night.
It should be a bit of fun, as myself and a few mates went along to act as extras in the video. it was filmed in eamonn dorans. Only about 15 people turned up. so there were loads of 'squeeze in up front' shots to give the impression that there were more there..
weird watching them film the video. the sound...

A gunman stormed the stage during a heavy metal rock concert in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday night, firing at the band and audience and killing four people before a police officer shot and killed him, police said. One of the dead was guitarist 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott. The gunman also wounded two people. (VINNY HIS BROTHER WAS ONE)

Favourite Xmas Song 4627 25
Started by klootfan
ok folks...
picture this. youre being held down by two rather aggresive looking body building type persons. and a third person has your mp3 player in hand and is threatening to delete your entire mp3 collection unless you pick a favourite christmas song...a serious situation indeed
what would it be
For me, it would be Bing crosby and 'white christmas'.
Although the gift grub version of 'do they know its xmas' deserves special mention

Should U2 split up? (part II) 4997 25
Started by admin
In the Guardian today John Waters has written a heavy enough piece (sure in it he even refers to the Chemist Alexander Mitscherlich...) on U2 and the question should they break-up. My own view (already floated in an earlier discussion) is that they should not cuz I believe their best album is still in them. But Waters - who has in his time actually written some magnificent, searching stuff when it comes to U2 - presents some intriguing arguments. Have a read:

can anybody recommend any new or old artists and records that come under the heading of 'world' music I don't necessarily mean tribal/ethnic folk stuff, but just different sounds and styles. for instance, I saw tinariwen on jools holland's show a few months ago and I was blown away (north african nomads with scuzzy guitars; they rock!!!) - did anyone here get their record, and is it any good did anyone see them at crawdaddy in dublin a few months ago
I'm a bit bored by the buena vista coff...

I know it's Eoghans site and i know its a discussion board but that is seriously not cool. How can a 'discussion' board that offers a place for relative 'free' speech have a topic shut down.
After all, arent discussion boards supposed to bring people together in a social context.
I think it's interesting that the topic was closed. I also find it wrong.
When people go out on the batter with friends, they dont always have long discussions about what relevance keats has when compared to th...

If you think about certain films, songs or musical performances come straight to mind. But what are the most memorable ones Michael Madsen grooving to Steelers Wheel while slicing off a cop's ear or any score John Williams has produced. Feel free to mention numerous movies but try to answer these following questions.....
Best Theme Tune
Best Musical Performance In A Film
Best Soundtrack

Hi all,
I've recently gotten very into this very interesting and original band. Can anyone tell me are they playing anywhere on our fair wee Isle any time soon Don't they have a new album out too
By the way I'm going to cheekily drop this in even though I shouldn't: any musicians into them around Mayo area and are interested in forming band to play similar gimme msg. (tsk tsk shame on me using the soap box for an obvious musicians wanted/for sale post!)
