I was looking forward to seeing them because I'd heard from a number of people that they were great but I gotta say they weren't too hot on the night. Maybe it was because I was in the upper circle and its hard to get enthusiastic about support bands when you're surrounded by talkers but I was left fairly unimpressed. I got talking to a guy who knew much more about them than I did and he didnt think that they translated well live either.

Interpol were great. They seemed so much more relaxed then the village gig. New songs sounded great as did the old...now heres hoping for an oxegen gig

I was really underwhelmed by the gig last night. I love the albums and was looking forward to the gig alot but alas it was an anti climax. I knew interpol where not going to be the type of band to engage the audience alot between songs etc but i thought there would be more of an edge live more urgnecy in the delivery. It all sounded perfect but if i wanted that i could have sat at home and listened to the cd. It all felt sterile and didnt enspire me to sing the lyrics or really feel the songs and these are songs i allready know and love !!! Too much cool and not enough passion.

Interpol were fantastic but i agree that their crowd interaction seriously needs work. The crowd loved them regardless but i would be very interested to see how they go down to a coldplay audience who don't know them without engaging the crowd. Spoon fell foul to this little oddity last night too. I am a huge spoon fan and was delighted to see them support but alas the usual s**t sound for the support act really hankered any real chance of them impressing the crowd. They picked up towards with end with some great songs off girls can tell but overall they were disappointing. Given the sound that interpol had which was possibly the best i've ever heard in the Olympia the mighty Spoon would have rocked. Besides all that Interpol were class

Ye, not much magic came from Spoon,
though their bassist looked like Ben Stiller and the singer was a double for Edwin Van der Sar, that kept me amused for the set!...

I found Interpol dull. They were like 5 blocks of wood on stage. Totally lifeless.
Should have just stayed home and listened to the album.

Sound issues were definitely a factor in my underappreciation of Spoon last night..It really sounded like they were playing in a cave at times, very hollow and nasty. Instead of sounding like a coherent band all the instruments seemed seperate from each other. The keyboards in particular were just horrible but it was definitely down to the engineer rather than the band. Totally agree with tommythecatz on the sound for Interpol though-I didnt think it would be that good, especially because I was stuck in the upper circle but everything was crystal.
As regards Oxegen rumours, it seems doubtful they'll be on the lineup but my next favourite band, Modest Mouse are apparently joining the line up soon so I'm happy!

But thats just the way they are, and probably always will be. In my opinion there was a lot more life in them compared to the village gig.

I thought it was a great gig, by far the best one I've been to in at least 6 months. Relating to what I wrote in the thread discussing Daraghs' op ed I think the crowd had a lot to do with me enjoying it more than the Village gig.
Only gripe was that they didn't play "untitled" but I'll let it slide.

havent heard them play 'untitled' in their set for years which is really dissapointing.... and they didnt play 'Stella' which suprised me a lot. did anyone else find the gig to be very short?? Fantastic sound last night i have to say, but i found previous interpol gigs to be more 'epic'(is that the word im looking for???!!)

I thought it was a bit hit and miss. Some songs sounded great, really epic and then others were all over the shop and the sound was brutal. That drummer though...christ he's good! Have to say I thought they were better in the Village - partly because of the crowd interaction thing..or should I say the lack of...I know that sounds weird but the lack of interaction is their thing really...I always think it suits their music..some of the songs come across as being full of paranoia, loneliness and isolation..and their usual stiff, taut, angry demeanor adds to that and gives the gig more impact. While it's nice to see them smile once in a while and look like they are enjoying themselves I think I prefer it when they do the mean and mysterious thing instead!! Does anyone else think Carlos looks like a Count?!!
Also, disssgguuusstedd they didn't play 'Untitled' !

You're not wrong. The actor's name is Crispin Glover. Check out this picture

Is it Crispin or is it Carlos?

thought it was great gig but would agree that it was similiar to staying at home listening to the cd. Am glad I went though. Think they may get better live with time.

i thought the gig was brilliant and i dont think they needed to interact with the audience arter all i wasnt there to hear them tell me storys about there life. they did say thank you after almost every song and th drummer threw his drum sticks into the crowd . if you want to go see some rockstars head to aerosmith or u2 . but not interpol . i think there music shows there not going to act like the frames on stage.
