I liked damo untill i heard the song he did with cristhy moore ,the diffrents in the two singers just completly turned me around ,That doesent take away from the fact hes a great performer with a some likeable songs and occasionaly great lyrics ... still not optimistic about his new album! that unplayed piano song was terrible .

I thought 'o' had the makings of a great ep, but it just falls over with Rice's head up his hole after 'Older Chests'. Track 6-10 are just self indulgent twaddle.

the lyrics for dogs were posted on his website 2/3 years ago. the guy is a classic case of cant write, cant sing, cant play, looks awful and comes across like a twat on stage and in interviews but hes fooled enough people to get dumped by renee, as I said before a motel in tijuana awaits him

don't you think it's even a tiny bit impressive for someone who can't write songs or play guitar, or sing, to become a songwriter and lead singer with a band, get a record deal (juniper), write and record a critically acclaimed, award-winning solo album, sell two million copies of it, and perform sell out tours around ireland, the uk, europe, australia and the us, all just by "fooling people"? man, he makes george bush look like an amateur.
as for the motel in tijuana, i'd say you'd be far more likely to find him camping on the beach.
i think "o" is a brilliant, beautiful album, but to be honest i'm not expecting too much from "9". i'll wait til i hear it before making my mind up tho.

A) If ricecakes became President of the United States of America I would be impressed but, sorry, George W Bush outclasses him in every respect as an entertainer.
B) I think the poor fella would catch his death if he camped on the beach
C) Apparently, far more people die of coconuts falling on their heads than shark attacks so, if he does camp on the beach, please let it be somewhere with both coconut trees and shark infested waters.

Haha.
Bush is a genius. I'll be sad when he steps down, one of the world's greatest entertainers, yet forced to go in his prime. The US needs to change the law and let him stay another term.
I don't mind Rice at all, don't own any of his cds. Best of luck to him

well now you might find war, death, torture and pollution more entertaining than tousle-haired troubadours singing their songs, i can't argue with that cos it's just your opinion. however....
bush fooled just over 62 million people into voting for him, at a cost of around $372,000,000. damo (sorry, i do like nicknames, but 'ricecakes' just sounds a bit too gay for me) fooled 2 million people into buying his album and it didn't cost him anything. so on a purely financial level, he kicks dubya's ass.
tijuana is nice and toasty during the summer, and during the winter i'm sure he'd have plenty woolly jumpers to keep him warm. as for coconuts and sharks, well, his head is apparently safe and sound up his own hole and he's made out of tofu. no problem. you'll have to try harder i'm afraid.

I'll tell you what I find funny
Will Ferrell as George Bush

Be warned, you need a sense of humour to enjoy this and I think yours was surgically removed at birth, thus your ongoing defence of ricecakes
Don't worry, I have a 12gauge shotgun* if the sharks and coconuts don't do the trick
*NB: The 12 gauge shotgun in this post is a literary and metaphorical construct and not an actual firearm in the possesion of the author. No ricecakes were harmed during the writing of this post nor at any time afterwards. Any similarity between ricecakes and musicians of actual talent or ability is purely coincidental.

Jmc105, where you getting this info that Bush fooled 62 million people into voting for him? Yes, Florida was rigged in his favour but he was still in the race right up to that last state. And when he went up against John Kerry in the most recent election, he won fair and square. It's not about him fooling the American citizens - they wanted to vote for him (those that did vote at least) in the two elections that he stood in.
Back to this thread though......Is no-one here looking forward to Damien Rice's new album?

I'm looking forward to it, just out of curiousity. Haven't really listened to O and managed to avoid any sessions/dinner parties and communions where it might've been played.

the bould revlon reckoned that damien rice has achieved his level of success in spite of a lack of talent, not because he is talented. and that reminded me of bush. i don't consider the man competent to manage a starbucks franchise, let alone the united states of america. i was in denver during the 2004 election and watched the presidential debates. the contrast between kerry, who was able to address the issues he was asked about with intelligence, and bush, who ignored the questions in favour of saying what suited him (a familiar enough tactic round here incidentally) and still failed to construct meaningful sentences, was shocking. regardless of what your political or moral beliefs may be, how any sane, thinking person could entrust the running of their country to george w. bush is beyond me. just over 62 million people voted for bush in total, and i reckon that if they believe he is the best man for the job that somewhere along the line somebody must have brainwashed them.
i am looking forward to the new album, but having heard some of his new material i'm not expecting it to be as good as 'o'.
in spite of my lack of a sense of humour, and thanks for clearing that up it's such a relief just to finally know, i'll see your ferrell and raise you a black bush.

The last one was a letter.
This one is a number.
It's all so mysteriously profound.
What can it all mean?
Why 9 and not 8?
Why O and not I?
Boiled or fried?
Is there a connection between the rise of Damien & condeleeza?
Is condi the blowers daughter?
What would uncle ben make of it all?
It's all boil in a bag to me!

Nothing got to do with brainwashing. During those debates Bush gave straight answers on the core issues - Gay Marriage, Education, Defence, Health, War On Iraq - while Kerry tried to dodge them and be on both sides of fence. The majority of American voters will opt for the candidate who appeals to them on those issues. John Kerry was simply the wrong choice for the Democratic Party, because the American public felt (and opinion polls proved this throughout the election) that they couldn't trust him and didn't know what he stood for. With Bush, depsite his inability to speak well in public and not exactly being a great President first time round, they knew what they were getting.
Anyway, let's leave the politics aside.

well as a neutral observer i couldn't believe the results when they came in. bush's record on health is atrocious, his defence policies are a sick joke (effectively spying on his own people, trying to redefine the word 'torture'), gay marriage was a smokescreen and the war in iraq was a mess from day one. the fact that kerry's answers reflected the fact that some issues were not simply black and white (eg stem cell research) may have made bush's responses seem more 'straight', but here's one i remember that sums up dubya's approach:
quesion from dude in the audience: i feel like with the new laws allowing for my home to be searched without a warant and without my knowledge that my civil liberties as an american citizen are being eroded.
bush: well, i hope you don't feel that way...
i reckon that republicans vote republican, and always will. certainly from the people i spoke to who were voting for bush that was the reason they gave. plus the fact that america has never voted to change president during a war. and with the likes of karl rove pulling the strings, (attacks on john kerry's war record etc), as much as it defied common sense, i suppose in the end of the day bush getting re-elected was inevitable.
i agree tho, let's leave the politics aside.
