Ever been to a gig and the support act upstaged the main headliner? Who is the best support act you saw? And does the venue make much of a difference to how the crowd react to a support act? Are you a sssshhher or do you hate those people?

well i was at the pixies gig in lansdown where the kings of leon were supporting, the kings were really deadly full of life and got the crowd pumping!!..was all set then for the pixies expecting them to pick up were the kings finished off..but instead i found them rather boring or something, just running through the tracks trying to finish as quickly as they could!!, only the excitment of seeing them for the first time carried me through the gig, on reflection i found the kings put on a better show!!
on the whole ssshhher thing i dont know, somtimes its called for when people are shouting out stuff when it a small intimate gig can be annoying and distracting ie. Neil young in vicar st there were a few people trying to sing along with him and some people trying to ssshhhh them but it sounded great, hairs on my neck were standing!!...so i dont no depends on the situation sometimes called for...other times just go with it!!!!

On a local level about 18-months to 2 years ago I saw Delorentos play a lot of opening slots and would routinely be far better than the main act.

During Bud Rising04 (or 05 I’m not too sure) I saw Editors open for The Departure and they promptly blew them off the stage.

Pavement, supporting Sonic Youth in the Brixton Academy in 1992(or maybe 93??)Sonic Youth were brilliant as ever but Pavement, who i'd never heard of at that point, were amazing. Bought 'Slanted' th next day and it still gets regular outings.
Also, the Go Betweens supporting REM in th RDS in 1989.

Really? I thought they were incredibly dull. I was bored after about 3 songs. And I like their music.

Thats mad, i also found it funny after the EP that people who had been to see the same band had such different views. Its one thing if you dont like the band, but two people in the same room watching a band they like can have totally different views. All the way through the Russian Futurists i wanted to dance my as* off.

I just thought it was really samey. The singing vocal melodies over the exact same instrumental ones annoyed me.
And I loved Caribou that night too.

On the whole sssshhhhhing thing. I remember when Adam Green played an excellent set in Whelan's and the crowd were divided into sssshhhhers (have I just created a new word?) and singers. It got pretty nasty between the two sides, at which point Adam Green said 'There's gonna be a fight here between the people who want to sing at my gig and the one's who don't......I'm staying out of it'.

Beck supporting Radiohead in Marlay. Sorry, but it's true.
And Starsailor supporting the Charlatans about 5 years ago in Boston.
I left half way through the Charlatans...

The Prodigy supporting Oasis in Cork in 1996.
The Beastie Boys supporting Pulp in Galway in 1998.
Queens Of The Stone Age supporting the Chilli Peppers at Slane in 2003.
The Pixies supporting the Chilli Peppers in Phoenix Park in 2004.
Kid Koala supporting Four Tet in Galway in 2005.
I can't believe I've seen the Chilli Peppers twice. I'm not even a fan.

Good shout there, Stroller, with Kid Koala.
Talk about a thunder thief!
Fair play to Four Tet for even going on after him.
