and i'm sure that people said the same thing bout "Dance the Devil". and then again about "For the Birds". and also "burn the maps". i think that the frames piss off so many people off because they're still around thus disproving the theories as outlined above. theyve actually got more successful here and abroad in the last 5 or 6 years and largely by using the cash from sell-out irish tours. other irish bands could copy and paste that approach but never do, which is an interesting one. when the frames now tour, they can pull the kind of crowds in bumfcuk, idaho which many other irish bands can only dream of attracting. not many paddys or J1ers in bumfcuk the last time i looked so there's a healthy non-irish audience out there for them. like the m50, the frames will run and run (probably round in circles too - the last few albums have been awful since the high of "for the birds"). and like the m50, we'll probably always be happy to moan about them now, that damien rice fellow......

the ONE album has been awful since the high of "for the birds". I thought 'Burn the Maps', was a brave album to make, considering the legion of fans won over by Setlist & who were expecting 'Dance the Devil 'Mk II. The band ignored this & made the album they wanted. Releasing/including 'Fake' was a big mistake ... led people up the wrong path of expecting the 3min pop-rock the band stopped making in 99/2000 Burn The Maps, has been pretty favourably recieved by critics abroad, so touring away from Ireland is probs the best thing they can do.

Saw them in Amsterdam last year and the place was packed to the gills, a place bigger than the olympia and smaller than the point. And most of the audience was made up of dutch and non-paddy wagoners such as myself . So I agree with Pilcahrd about the touring thingy. But I really didn't like Burn the Maps, much too humdrum/shoe gazy.

theres been TWO albums mully - a live one called "Set List" which was pretty so-so and u are right, BTM got great write-ups abroad. maybe thats the thing about not having other older albums to compare it to?

My five cents worth....... 1) Who the f*ck is Derek Mooney ? 2) Isn't it about f*cking time Rice Cakes had a new album out ? 3) Glenn Close as Glen Hansard. Genius.
