Gar has put together a list of 10 acts lurking under the radar that merit a tad more scrutiny. Check it out here: www.cluas.com/music/features/irish-music-scene-quality-unsigned-acts.htm Feel free to then drop back to this thread to comment on his selections. eoghan

    a) It's June already. b) That looks like a 2005 list, with the last digit changed.

You're right. I think the article could havee been packaged more accurately. Less "acts to watch in 2006", more "acts of note on the scene, etc, etc". Will sort that tonight. But what about his choices? Is he on the money? eoghan

I would've made 10 different choices I think, but it's all opinion really.

So how about jotting a quick page or so on what would have been your ten choices and sending them through to me? I'll publish them alongside Gar's choices. The extra work on this side is marginal now that the HTML template is there into which someone else's 10 choices can be slotted in. eoghan

Are the Rags still on the go or are the rumours of them losing a guitarist greatly exaggerated?? Gar on the pulse of the live music scene there!!

I wrote the piece a few months back with the sole purpose of including unsigned acts that don't get alot of media coverage or mentions on this board. It was not deemed to be a 'Top 10 of 2006' and I would happily debate the quality of the ten acts listed in the piece with anyone who thinks I may be way off the ball. And I presume that The Rags are still going, considering they are on the bill for this year's Electric Picnic.

If Stand are 'ones to watch' then we're all in trouble.

It's not a One To Watch piece.........it's a piece about acts that are underestimated and don't get alot of attention. Stand are quite a good band actually.

Goodtime John won't be doing much for the rest of the year. as far as i know he's gone to Canada for a while. had a going away gig in Crawdaddy recently. excellent songwriter anyway for what it's worth. No Immediate in the list? i don't really care for them but they're about a millin times more interesting that The Urges.

To reflect this I've updated the article and labeled it as "Ten acts under the radar that merit a tad more scrutiny". eoghan

never mind the urges - if you're looking for a band with talent and raw energy who are much more deserving of being on that list, i.e."Ten acts under the radar that merit a tad more scrutiny" look no further than The Things...

Most of the bands Gar mentioned I don't know, except for 66e. Best Irish band around at the moment without any shred of doubt! Tried to listen to Tadhg Cooke's Wax&Seal the other deal, but I couldn't get past track 4..
