the arrests would be for dealing and possession probably. if you find that kind of environment unsavoury, well yeah a pillfest probably isn't for you. but you shouldn't just assume that everyone there is a) scum b) going to destoy the place. Maybe they crowd goes for the same reason you go to Electic picnic? to have a good time?
these gigs go on all the time from Global gathering in Millstreet last year to those Godskitchen things on in the point. i can't remember either place being destroyed after those events, so it won't after this.

They are full of 16 year olds fornicating upstairs in the Point though. I kind of can't blame them, where else are the pissed 16 year olds going to cop a feel?

the last two gigs of mainstream note that I have attended were Bell X1 and Snow Patrol (mediocrity personified but I still dig them at times) and they weren't full of 16 year olds fornicating. They were full of middleaged people fornicating which is too much for my pre-21 eyes. I feel young couples can get away with it at gigs coz they're young which means that at least half of the time its still pretty new for them (though I'll probably get an account of everyone's gig conquests now) but with people over the 27 age bracket why would you come to a gig that is predominantly full of younger people and start doing unholy things to them in front of them? Could someone please enlighten me as to the reason for this when they have obviously done it many times before and still think they can get away with it when its just wrong!

If you're lonely, I'll cop you a feel at your next concert.

I have no problem with a 'drug-fueled rave' as a festival. Unfortunately, the Hi:Fi lineup is quite s**t.

and theres the real reason why hi-fi is doing poorly. MCD are pitching it as a "boutique festival" but the line-up reads "rave in a field with loads of trancey stuff". talk about getting your wires crossed.

What would be so good about a 'drug fuelled rave' as a festival? Not being overly moralistic here but I've seen and heard of many bad things to do with drugs and some at gigs that tend to end up in the medical tent and just f**k up the whole gig for everyone. Plus the actual people who get devestated by them and that stuff that we would rather not think about in our cynical states. If Hi-Fi goes ahead then they probably will need a very well organised medical staff.

Just in reply to STROLLER, i have been to many festivals, both here and abroad, and the only time I have ever been involved in a fight is at EP last year when some drunken snob for some unknown reason gave my girlfriend 2 slaps in the face, so based on that it might not be such a bad thing if the crowds are different at hifi from EP.

most people who take drugs don't end up in the medical tent. In fact, the medical tents, the majority of the occupants have overindulged with alcohol.
Still not going to Hi:Fi though.

I ended up in the medical centre at one of the Homelands ... Had a thumbing Headache. Thats All. Seriously.
I felt like I was being interagated by the Gestabo ... Sitting in a Chair,
"What have you taken?"
Nothing.
"What have you taken?"
Nothing, Its a headache.
"What have you taken?"
Can I have some Paracetamol
"What have you taken?"
I like to take some Paracetamol
"What have you taken?"
You get the idea ...
