the best music anywhere is at The Welcome Inn on Parnell St. Most random place in town and most random and most fantastic tunes. No dancing though. Just drinking and listening.

whadyoutalkinabout Willis? I'm not against that guy in particular. For a long time I thought it was just a preprogrammed set of songs. And it seems the same on a saturday night(is it the same dj?) I just think whelans is not so alternative. Chart/pop alternative perhaps.

In fairness, that sport can be indulged in in Whelan's too. Doesn't everyone go to Skinny Wolves now anyway?

I know I'm not on here much at all but I read this thread with amusement. Having experiencing him DJ in Whelans, I can confirm that yes he is that bad. It reminded me of when a mainstream radio DJ tries to be cool and rock out but his conception of rock music goes only as far as Kaiser Chiefs, Killers, Franz and what he calls 'that Guns 'n' Roses song you always hear'. Basically he cannot offer anything that 98fm can't already replicate.

ok, ok, i just met a mate of mine in town and she said she was there at the weekend and she said it was screamingly bad. Not good bad, bad bad. if its the same guy, his name is pat and he's been doing it for almost 10 years (along with stuart clarke who has been there for that long as well) surely its time for their pensions now?

Trying telling that to Glen, Ollie, Mundie et al...

I happened to be in the Róisin in Galway last night for a tipple. The dancefloor was jumpin, and I got to enjoy the likes of Trail of the Dead, Clap your hands, Postal Service, Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips, Redneck Manifesto, YYYs, Low, Death Cab, Bloc Party, Mogwai, Soulwax, Architechture in Helsinki, Grandaddy, Sufjan Stevens.... and all with a fine brew in hand. Why can't we get that in Dublin, eh?

Strange Brew was tops when we were there, dancefloor was f**king packed. I think it was free the night we went. Is that always the case?

i couldn't ignore this thread, everyone who says whelans in sh1t is on the fuc4in money, i can't understand how it gets so bleedin packed every week, i have horrible memories of goin in there and havin fat mid-30s blokes, who think they're hip and trendy cause they're listening to songs they used to listen to ten or more years ago, shove their fat bellies in my face and spill their drink everywhere. Jesus is it mid-life crisis or what? oh look they're playin blister in the sun again. either way i proprose we burn the venue down. Anyone with me?

Thats a very Cynical vew to take. I used to be big Whelans fan, but now its gone to s**t, and if enough people think the same i think some thing should be done about it. Im sick of paying in for a crappy DJ (and yes he is THAT bad)to listen to the same tunes every time. Every night is like a photocopy of the last, trying to remember individual nights there is tricky as they are virtually impossible to distinguish, (that and i get nicely merry),
