Pet Shop Boys have some fantastic songs and are certainly worthy headliners. SFA of course and B&S, those 3 bands probably make me buy a ticket. Problem with the lineup is a lot of bands have played recently, i've seen quiet a few. I still can't see a decent alternative indie lineup stretching over 3 days out of it. I hope there was some truth to that Death Cab For Cutie rumour.

Since when has Electric Picnic been an alternative indie festival? since it's inception the majority of the acts playing have been of the electronic/hip-hop/soul/funk/reggae variety. I'd can't imagine Electric Picninc adding too many more indie bands to their line up. I'd imagine that they've already anounced the majority of the indie bands which will be playing in order to try and get the rock crowd to buy as many tickets as possible before Slane and the Morley Park gigs are anounced. I reckon they're deliberately holding back on announcing more electronic/hip-hop/soul/funk/reggae acts until their Garden Party event takes place. Don't be suprised if acts like Bookashade, Scratch Perverts, DJ Marky, Toots & The Maytals, Asian Dub Foundation are confirmed for the Picnic once they've played the Garden Party. It's far more likely that Prince or Beastie Boys will be added to the line up than Morrissey or Smashing Pumpkins.

And it's true.
Ah he as at least three tunes in all fairness;
The one Basement Jaxx sampled for Where's Your Head At, the one Sugababes sampled for Freak Like Me and the one Armand Van Helden sampled for Koochy

as someone who isn't into electronic/hip-hop I hate to say it but yeah you're probably right, it was the same last year thats why i didn't go (even though i wanted to see Arcade Fire), I think its half baked idea of a festival, if you're going to have a 3 day festival with no day tickets then you have to half a serious lineup for each genre.

I agree with Una about the Pet Shop Boys.. They were always very famous for their stage shows and had a rake of decent tunes (Suburbia, Being Boring) and they should take the Kraftwerk slot.. Gary Numan, possibly on before them or at the least, not headlining, actually has an enormous amount of good tunes, people just don't know them..
Personally I think they're gone very indie with this years line-up and am a bit concerned. However, it is likely that some of the acts for Garden Party, Bud Rising etc will be added once they've played.. Still plenty of time... ( Unless Damien Rice has gone all electro? )

yeah, i agree... the lineup so far is very indie - usually i'd be happy with that but with electric picnic, the whole dance / electronica / hip-hop / reggae / funk vibe is part of the attraction...but mainly, my problem with it is that the indie lineup is just not alternative enough

Not saying anymore but there's a strong possibilty that The Fiery Furnaces and Death Cab For Cutie could be playing.

And I'll start the raconteurs rumours.
They're playing 5 days earlier at Reading

I have totally unfounded confidence that the Raconteurs will be playing. When I was younger I used to predict whether Liverpool would win any silverware that season by picturing the captain in the new shirt holding a cup. If it looked right, I thought they'd win something. I was right quite often. The answer was no. I can picture myself watching the Raconteurs in a tent.

And Pearl Jam are also playing Reading around the same time Slane is usually on, who were rumoured to be playing there with Neil YOung way back in October

Not true. They're playing Reading and Leeds in August. They have also said they are playing in Ireland this year at a large venue.
