Ta Johan, but TBH I'm not looking for yet another recommendation list of bands and singers, I'm looking for a song. I'm still looking for just three minutes of magic, one CLASSIC song by a current Irish act. Sure, I'm hearing good/ efficient/ well-recorded/ good voice/ fun/ pleasantly reminiscent of Bloc Party/ worth a listen/ workmanlike - but nothing even remotely classic. Nothing like the shock yer grandma got when she first heard Heartbreak Hotel, or the shock her toyboy got when he first heard Starman, or the shock their lovetwins got when they first heard Billie Jean. Think forward ten years from now - can you give me one song you seriously think will be remembered? Cos I ain't heard it yet. Don't mean to be harsh, but, as Eamo might put it, I'm only hearing League-of-Ireland material. Still looking for that tenth and last Desert Island Disc...

Nice one, Fern Cotton. I guess if you only bother listening to one song then it cuts out the need for any other songs. Good work.

yeah you want some seismic earthshattering tune to kand on your lap so you can feel like you have borne witness to an equally seminal moment in rock and roll history. Then fingers crossed you might be asked to appear on I love 2005 in forty years time so you can indulge in some misty eyed reverie about how this tune changed your life and you never tire of hearing it. Your a wannabe fanboy looking for a band. Try a personal ad.

Demon Stomp - The Things (psycholover is the one everyone knows but this in my opinion is their best so far)
XXX Robot - Betamax Format
Damage Imitation or Not for the last time - Channel One
Velocity - Aleko
Amino Acids - TwinKranes (particularly f**king deadly)
They are all seriously good tunes and worth checkin out.
All those bands are on myspace too so just go onto
their page and those tunes can be streamed.

incidentally, i got to sit in on some of the recording of the new waiting room record in france, and it's mindblowing. i always thought they were great, but this is a huge leap forward for 'em, eclipses most other irish bands

Just worked my way down some The Immediate MP3s on myspace from someone's recommendation - the last & least-listened-to song, called "You Reflected", is pretty damn special, I gotta say - much much stronger than the more attention-seeking "Stop and Remember". Dunno what it is, but there's something really open-hearted about their music...

The Waiting Room are blooming legends, can't wait to hear the new stuff.
Am I right in saying that the sample at the start of Waller St is actually Charles Manson, its been wrecking me bin for weeks.
Out On A Limb are seriously raising the bar in terms of Irish albums, fair play to 'em.

speaking of eircom league - if you'd popped along to a cork city match earlier this season, you would've seen kevin doyle playing for the 2005 champions, now scoring goals for reading at the top of the english championship. standard shmandard.

Dry County are my favourite by a good bit. Have seen them 3 times and they're quality.
Really like The Immediate and The Rags aswell. All 3 have excellent E.P/Singles in Tower and Road records,i think. Definitely worth investing in.
Heard a band called Envelope aswell. Was pretty impressed.
