This is turning out to be a great line-up. I was just thinking of what to do to avoid camping and checked the festival's site to discover little beach huts. And there seems to be alot of emphasis on this being a proper festival with paintball, silent disco activities etc. Indeed roll on September!!!!

those beach hut things are so f**king expensive though - what a piss take! I had surprisingly little hassle this year at Oxegen on the 'not camping' buzz. No traffic to speak of on Saturday or Sunday night for me.

It depends on where you live. I'm close enough to Punchestown to not need to camp there (although I did give it a miss this year) but it's a decent enough spin down to Stradbally. And if you're carless you're f**ked, the buses are something like 30 bills down.
Still not a thing to touch AF on the bill but I am looking forward to seeing a couple of the newly announced acts.

Dave's Radio? Failed "You're a Star" no-hoper?
Seriously?
Agree with Mr. Unicron. Line-up is not great.
Most of the bands have played Dublin, some more than once, in the last year.
Still, might go Saturday just for Arcade Fire.

Thing to remember about camping is that it hopefully won't attract the pissed-up 15 year old element so popular at Oxegen. Noise at the campsite is one thing, and to be expected, but stealing and setting tents on fire should be minimal at Electric Picnic.

i think the line up is pretty good, Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips, Toots, Mixmaster Mike, Mercury Rev, and i wouldnt mind seeing Damien Dempsey.
Also seems like they are organising this on the right lines, and id say camping should be grand. Looking forward to a late night at the Lost Vagueness Diner too!

There are some really good acts announced like Daragh said, but I'm looking forward to seeing Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds the most.

I'm glad someone has the balls and creativity to bring acts like Arcade Fire, Be Your Own Pet and Vitalic down my way. If you dont own Vitalic - OK Cowboy, get it. Zat is all.

Heard a couple of interesting rumours today.
The reason for MCD putting Oxegen 2006 tickets on sale on Friday is that they are trying to strangle the Electric Picnic and prevent it from getting a third year. I was also told that MCD and Aiken/Pod got into a huge bidding war over Franz Ferdinand and FF eventually went for the budrising support slot with a payment of £360,000 (thats sterling folks).

I would'nt mind, but IMO FF are over-rated anyway.

I feel the same way about them but that seems like a massive fee for a band that aren't even going to headline, Scissor Sisters can't be getting much more than that (assuming the figure is true)

well, the FF rumour has been around before so we can assume its (kinda) true. i mean, that kind of money is stupid so its understandable why a band would say yes.
as for Oxegen tickets... i think this has more to do with banking the cash and using the hype from oxegen 2005. look at T in the Park - they put 25000 weekend tickets fcr T 2006 on sale on Tue morning. Within ONE HOUR, they were all gone, sold out. remember that there is no glastonbury next year so people over there will be desperate for festivals. over here, i really think (hope?) there will be a huge difference between Oxegen and Electric Picnic audiences - the kids at their first big weekend away with all that entails vs slightly older, more experienced punters. i really dont see how EP could compete with Oxegen - different ideas, bills, vibes, selling points. putting oxegen tickets on sale now wil soak up money kids are earning this summer and mean MCD can make a few more thousand euros on the interest between now and next year (remember that MCD are also heavily involved in T)

Yes, the 2 festivals will hopefully be poles apart.
Oxegen: dirty, litter-strewn, dusty,big loud obvious crowd-pleasing rock bands, skangers, urine-filled bottle-throwing dimwitted shirtless males with silly hats, drunken 15 year olds, audiences with a worrying compulsion to sing 'Ole Ole Ole' at every available opportunity,
poor organisation, bad sound, 4 million euro for a hot-dog etc.....
Electric picnic: Brilliant and imaginative line-up, nice, chilled-out, slightly older crowd, Comedy Tents and interesting non-musical diversions,beach-huts, beautiful setting. And Kraftwerk. Kraftwerk!
AS for FF, what a strange line-up! sisters, FF, Maroon 5, Jem?????!!!!! Bizarre. I'm thinking of doing a sister gig with a line-up that consists of Slipknot, Pet Shop Boys, Luciano Pavarotti and Declan Nerney
MCD are pure evil.

Una's right about Vitalic. OK Cowboy is one of my favourite dance albums of the year so far. You can listen to one minute MP3 samples of all the tunes on the album here;
http://www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/169677-02.htm&highlight=vitalic
Most of ye will probably recognise track 5 from the 2 Many DJs as Heard on Radio Soulwax CD.
Incedently the Optimo DJs released the best mix CD since 2 Many DJs earlier this year. You can listen to samples here;
http://www.juno.co.uk/products/162523-01.htm&highlight=optimo
Check out tracks 26 & 27 where they're mixing the Rapture with the 20th Century Steel Band and tracks 38 & 39 where they mix Ricardo Villalobos with Art of Noise, Suicide and Chris Isaak.
You'd be a fool not to try and catch them at Electric Picnic.
Hot Chip are also worth a mention. They kind of sound like the Beta Band but with a lo-fi 80s funk obsession. Check out their single Playboy here;
http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF157733-02-01-01.mp3
Finally whomadewho are one of the best punk-funk-dance acts to come along since the Rapture.
You can check out their funky side on this James Murphy collaboration;
http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF167594-01-01-01.mp3
You can check out their Punky side on this Benny Benassi Cover;
http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF162581-01-01-01.mp3
And you can check out their dancey side on this Mr Oizo Cover;
http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF162581-01-02-01.mp3
Hot Chip, Be Your Own Pet, The Rakes, Vitalic, LCD Soundsystem, Whomadewho, Optimo DJs....this line up just keeps on getting better and better.

the capacity is being increased for Oxegen next year. Obviously MCD are trying to discredit Electric Picnic. That's competition baby.
Stroller, did Optimo DJs ever play Backlash that time, or did they bail? Or am I just imagining the while scenario?
LCD Soundsystem must have got a truck full of cash. Isn't their a clause where they shouldn't really be allowed play EP considering they just did an MCD gig (oxegen?). Interesting yet confusing.
