they don't and probably won't earn a million, they've just signed a 6 album deal. Any new band who signs that kind of deal has to be loo-la. But, I'll gladly have my ass kicked when they 'make it'

aye a 6 album deal for a new band is nuts. 1 album, see how things stand.

I wanna get one thing straight, my band hasnt signed a deal for anything near a million, i havent been on this site in months and i cant belive the rumours flying about.. the dude who wrote the artical in the times made everything up even our names! its very unfortuanate that people are begruding us already without hearing us or knowing anything about us or our music and the reason we got signed is, because we're good enough.. simple as that

How can a journalist make up the name of the front man it IS Shaun Mulrooney. I grew up with Mulrooney and albeit I dont hang around with him anymore I'm still fairly friendly with him. I'm delighted and really chuffed that he's signed and would love to be in his shoes. However, personally and alot of others I've talked to about Humanzi just don't rate them as a band. I've seen em live a good few times and everytime the music has just done nothing for me.I seriously think the only reason you guys got a deal was because of Alan Cullivan and bear in mind he's left JJ72 and The Thrills in his wake so the hope wouldn't be for the best. Now I'm open to correction on this but I have it on fairly good information that the deal was for €1.5mill and he took 35% of that straight off. Also, the label deal smacks of using the band as an outlet to sign other bands rather than concentrate on Humanzi and also from what I know Humanzi are tied to the label they set up for life no getout clause. I got it all explained to me the other day but TBH I got lost in the middle of all the complications about how that works out. Hope to f**k I'm wrong lads cos I won't begrudge you success just because I dont like your music and Mulrooney is a really sound bloke. onwards and upwards

i am already tired of Humanzi and i havent even heard a note of their music i dont know alan cullivan from a hole in the wall but he did work miracles with the sows ears that are The Thrills so fair dues for doing the same with Humanzi. i dont know about his connections with jj72 - theyre signed to Lakota and i think alan cullivan did work experience there. What I've heard is that it's largely a LABEL deal - ie Humanzi and their managers will release their stuff on a new label which is funded by Universal Music but which will look and act independent in Ireland and maybe the UK. besides humanzi, it will also sign and promote irish acts. its a bit like Mother Records, the label U2 used to have and we all know what great talent scouts they are/were if alan cullivan got 35 percent of the Humanzi deal, my name is Steven Gerrard and i'm going to move to wigan in the summer. no lawyer under the sun would recommend that his/her clients would agree to that and i am assuming Humanzi got legal advice on all of this. i dont know what the money was (and no-one aside from the band, their manager and the label will know that) but it seems to have been a lot. this is why all the fuss and backbiting is going on right now. major deals have all sorts of clauses and what-ifs so the band will end up with millions IF and ONLY if they sell millions of records. remember that all money in these deals are just LOANS against future sales - if the band dont sell the records, they still owe the money best of luck Humanzi! now give us some music to listen to......so the backlash can really begin Is this the first instance of a backlash before the band even released a record?

it will be interesting to see how the label idea works out. There aren't many small labels here dedicate to signing Irish acts and owned by the big heads, apart from Lakota. Any others?

I have it FACT that Alan Cullivan took 35% of that deal, I mean come on a legal consult can recommend not to sign a contract but in all fairness if someone waived a cheque in front of you for €1,500,000 wud u sign???? i know i probably would AND BESIDES ALL OF THIS HUMANZI s**tE THERES A MUCH MORE IMPORTANT QUESTION If IRMA are to be believed all the labels have no money to invest in new acts becuase of illegal MP3 downloading YET THEY STILL MANAGED TO PULL €1,500,000 OUTTA THEIR HOLES to sign a band irrespective of whether ppl think they are good or not

I hardly think Humanzi were signed by a label irrespective of whether people think they are good or not. They've been playing for the last year...albeit not a huge amount, but at each gig they'd a good sized crowd and went down really well. They last gig they did in Dublin in Whelans was packed out - the label know they're on to a good thing or they hardly be signing them.

Although not a "million dollar deal" as reported elsewhere, Humanzi's manager Alan Cullivan confirms details of the band's new label deal Alan Cullivan, the manager of The Thrills, has rubbished suggestions in the Sunday Times that his latest proteges Humanzi have been the beneficiaries of a million dollar deal with the music biz giant, Universal. “It’s amazing that people can write stuff like that,” he tells Hot Press. “It’s unfair. The article is incorrect. The amount of money that’s mentioned is inaccurate. It’s way off the mark. I gave the guy the facts and he still went ahead. These are young people you’re writing about. Something like that can affect a band very badly.” However, on the bright side, Cullivan confirmed that Humanzi have signed to Universal, in a deal that will see the full might of the multi-national behind them. “People don’t do those million dollar deals anymore,” he continues. “The business has changed. I can’t specify what the deal is but it’s for a lot less money than was mentioned. But there’ll be a single out over the next couple of months, and if everything goes well with the recording, we should have the album ready by the end of the summer. If we’re not ready to go with it early in the autumn, we’ll wait till the new year .” Along with its UK and Irish release, the record is likely to be picked up in America in Interscope. "It’ll go out in a lot of territories, there’s no doubt about that,” he confirms. The Humanzi signing is part of a label deal that finds Cullivan setting up his own label affiliated to Universal “We have some ideas about possible signings,” he concludes. “We’re looking for the truly creative stuff. We’re likely to be looking at the ones that aren’t in the gang, the outsiders – which The Thrills were and Humanzi are.”

i love the way people still think Hot Press is the gospel when it comes to music business stories in this country. they never ever ask the hard questions or the difficult questions, just blandly reprint what people tell them. unless alan cullivan can produce the deal notes so that we can all see what this great big mystical deal was, this is just b****x. most of all though - this has NOTHING to do with the f**king music!!!!! i am so sick and tired of Humanzi and I have yet to hear a note of music - i hope that its as good as all this press/hype (and it is hype)/attention would lead u to believe BRING ON THE SONGS RIGHT NOW!
