The Rogue Wave tune that accompanied the sub pop sampler i bought last year was realy good and ive been thinking of picking up the album. Ive seen it in town a couple of times and was tempted, but the price put me off.. must check for an online price

agree 100 percent on Richard Hawley - hugely under-rated talent. he played live in whelans a few years ago and it was spellbinding.
and disagree 200 percent on Pony Club! sorry. he's a wholly over-rated s**thead who has had so many bites at the cherry (Bawl, Fixed Stars, now Pony Club) that its obvious the public just won't bite. proof that going to Rock School does not work.

Spoon - american indie band with echoes of pixies, costelloe. New album might do a modest mouse for them.
M.I.A - sri lankan woman, heard her described as female dizee rascal
mendoza line - excellent alt country band
xiu xiu
the wrens
the decemberists
postal service
the immediate
settler - even though they broke up, their albums should be checked out
antony and the johnsons - this is in all the press at the moment and is very good
eastern lane - loved their last album but not heard most recent

Richard Hawley as in former Longpigs front man guys!?
If so, completely agree.... waste of talent. Adored the longpigs.

Interesting topic - I would def agree with Sun Kil moon, better known as Red House Painters. Front man Mark Kozelek is an incredible song writer with a beaut voice.
I’d also add:
The Sundays
Sebadoh – Lou has a new solo album out , emoh, v good .
Buffalo Tom

Richard Hawley wasn't the frontman with longpigs, I think his name was crispen or something. Hawley was in the band and also played with pulp.
I can't believe spoon are supporting interpol. When is that gig and where will I get a ticket. I presume it's sold out?

My nominations would be
Laura Viers
Sun Kil Moon
Third Eye Foundation
The AM
Explosions In The Sky
Liars
Brand New
Coheed and Cambria
Although, these are all relatively well known. I guess it depends who you hang out with.
Yeah Explosions in the Sky are great. 'The earth is not a cold dead place' is a great album. I also like The Vessels, they had an EP called 'Look for me first in any crowded room'. It was very good.

Another local boy surely destined for greatness is Gavin Glass. Caught a gig of his with his band in Crawdaddy a while back and was suitably impressed. Dont know a whole lot about these guys but they're definitely worth checking out live, IMHO. anyone got any more info?

Try www.gavinglass.com
Some really good acts mentioned like The Wrens, Havana Guns, Rogue Wave, Postal Service, Laura Veirs, Micah P. Hinson, Pinback, Faultline. Going to have to investigate further on alot more acts.

haha, we'll have to disagree about Pony Club then , actually going to see em tonight in Dorans in fact. I was never into Bawl although I did see em once live supporting Pulp way back. Fixed Stars never really floated my boat either but I think Pony Club are a real breadth of fresh air in the scene at the moment, both musically and lyrically. Might not be your cup of tea but Cullen is a great lyricist youd have to admit. Also great live band.
As for Hawley, he was indeed the guitarist with Longpigs and also played guitar with Pulp for a couple of years too. you can check out some great fee downloads on his site www.richardhawley.co.uk also you can join his forum and him questions and stuff. good bunch of people on that forum too.
I was also at the Hawley gig in Whelans a couple of years back and spellbinding was not the word, f**king imense gig altogether.

Would agree with recommending South. especially their first album, From Here On In. It's one of best albums I have.Second one wasnt as good.
Also think The Earlies are worth checkin out aswell. The Beta Band for me are the best and most talented i have ever heard who should have been huge!
