What about Damien Rice, hes been riding the O wave for the last 5 years. Is he going to get the finger out and produce another album - strike while the irons hot. Perhaps a little writers block??

Yeah I totally forgot about The Coral and British Sea Power. Of the newer bands The Subways and The Duke Spirit should be good.
A few more on the way or in the works:
Faithless
Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20)
Counting Crows
Robert Plant
System Of A Down
Tenacious D
Calexico
Josh Ritter
Outkast
Shins
Sufjan Stevens
Iron & Wine
Supergrass
Van Morrison
Tychonaut
Audioslave
And isn't there some kind of Beatles recording being polished or something?
I wouldn't be surprised if Damien Rice has an album out over the summer. He's been touring alot worldwide but he must have been writing and recording during that time aswell.

Or a touch of the David Grays ?
To be fair, this could be a case of difficult second album syndrome and there is always the problem of matching or surpassing a commercial success. Do you do a sequel in the same vein or try something different. Coldplay built on the success of their debut, Norah Jones fell back somewhat with her self penned, country tinged follow on (still massively successful though but Ray Charles gave her the Grammy this year). What to do.

tom mcrae has a new album coming out in may - it's called 'all maps welcome'... maybe the frames could give him some, it'd be more environmentally friendly...
really looking forward to bell x1's new album, gemma hayes' should be interesting too.
wouldn't be surprised to see a new damien rice album in the summer, but equally wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't appear for a long time yet, if ever. 'o' took ages to come out too...

seems no one mentioned the new autechre album which is due out soon. i downloaded the advance copy from soulseek and its damn good. i'm pretty sure you can get that new eels one there aswell. soulseek is deadly for getting albums before there released properly, got the gruff rhys, caribou, busdriver, mercury rev and a heap of other albums off it in the past, some as early as two months before commercial release

Probably because most people find Autechre are a bit of a snoozefest. File under worthy but dull. Then again, I haven't heard the new album yet so who knows, my opinion could change.

i think its a bit of a sweeping statement to say most people find them boring. if thats the case then why are they revered as one of the most innovative and influential electronic acts of all time. some of their stuff does demand extra attention but that can hardly be a bad thing.

Roseanne Bars Armpit (or RBA as I will refer to you from now on )I didn't say Autechre weren't revered (by a select group of people anyway), no one is saying what Autechre do isn't extremely clever and yes they certainly have been quite influential, you only have to listen to Radioheads Kid A to see that. The problem with this kind of geeky IDM is that like minimal techno and freeform jazz is that it can be a bit too clever for its own good. Its just not that much fun to listen to. Whats more, IDM itself has moved on since the early days of Warp and gained a pop sensibility, managing to be warm, emotionally involving, insanely catchy even and innovative at the same time. Max Tundra is the perfect example of this, or even more mainstream acts like The Postal Service, Lali Puna, Schneider TM, etc. Autechre on the other hand have not moved from their clinical experimentation so I think only the hardcore few of the "old guard" warp fans will really dig it.
I'm just saying they are always going to be a bit of niche band so don't be suprised if most people are indifferent.

Furthuring Gar's mention of Sufjan Stevens, the album will be the second of his 50 states cycle (this time focusing on Illinois), it's also quite possible that by years end he will have another 2 states knocked off as he would like to realese a christmas album (I'm thinking alaska) and an EP (rhode island perhaps).

i don't know man. whilst some of their tracks could be regarded as clinical experimentation, what has always attracted me to them has been the emotional depth and melodic nature of their songs (pieces?). i love the contrast between the abstract fractured beats and simple sad melody that has existed on all their albums. the nature of their music might not have evolved so much over the years but i think their sounds and technique has. and yes idm and electronica has moved on quite a bit but not just in that direction. alot of the stuff released on the mego, touch, smalltown supersound and leaf label has been quite serious yet thoroughly accessible and interesting(well i think so in anyways. maybe i'm a bit of a bore)
