I completely second what was said before re Funeral by the Arcade Fire - a fabulous mix of Flaming Lips, Les Negresses Vertes and everything good about loud melodic guitars and jumping around. Nick Cave's new one is the best his career in my opinion. But let's not forget that there was some fantastic pop music made this year too. Kelis' Tasty was a sexy treat and Gwen Stefani's debut had more cool idea's than just about any I heard this year. Finally, the ever-wonderful Wilco did not disappoint and I've just picked up a couple of tickets for their Hammersmith Apollo, London, gig early next year. All in all, a really good year for music. Turkey of the year? Easy... Around The Sun by REM. I never thought I would live to see the day when REM are irrelevant. An album in the times we are living that completely lacks the anger and passion of Green is downright unforgivable. Thoughts?

Cant just name one album Kings of Leon had best album of the year. Absolute masterpiece. Closely followed by The Beta Band, The Killers and Republic of Loose. Air and Kings of Convenience had quality ones aswell.

Stephen, I don't think I even knew REM had a new one out this year.

qorian is on the ball - elliot smith and the streets are definitley the best of the year, for all those saying that those granduncles of crap U2 released the best album of the year should hang their heads in shame, utter bland b****x and theyve been doing it for the last 15 years, how do they get away with it!
