Humanzie are a brilliant, brilliant band - fantastically talented and entertaining, I'd highly recommend going to see them.

There wasn't enough people at the chapters for it to be a breakthrough gig for them, most of the crowd seemed to know them allready as well. They were really good though, my first time hearing anything of theirs. I know it's bad form to pimp other music sites and amazingly self indulgant to pimp yourself but here's what I wrote for another site when I was talking about the bands that I had never seen and enjoyed:
Micronite Filter; The Rotators, who sound like Tom Waits circa “Small Change” crossed with pre “Born in the USA” Springsteen; Ham Sandwich, who manage to overcome the awful moniker to make really enjoyable Pixies and Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’s influenced rock; Jenny Lindfors whose bluesy folk didn’t really do it for me this time due to my state of mind but I’ll definitely keep an eye out for her again; The Little Ghetto Boys, who manage to create a rock/hip-hop fusion that doesn’t make me want to vomit at the merest sound of them; Vesta Varo whose sound not only easily filled the pub they were playing in but could work in a stadium as well and last but by no means least Neosupervital whose synthpoppy set was one of the most fantastic and hilarious gigs I’ve ever seen.

yeah neosupervital puts on a fun show...
i dunno about the chapters.. i thought they were good and had an interesting sound, but i didn't have enough of a reaction either way... they've certainly got potential though. someone recommended i see the rags, and again, i found them to be nothing special.
the rotators were the find of the weekend for me..

I thought Neosupervital put on a very good show. Thought that Stanley Super 800 and Fred were great. Thought the TBMC was the best venue to see a band because of its size and the lights etc. But the sound definately left it down at times - then again trying to turn over that many bands is a bit of a nighmare.
St Michaels church was a pretty cool venue too - should be used more often. Shame there's no a bar there but i suppose it is a church!
Thought Pony Club put on a good Show. Thought Joe Chester was pretty average as were the Rotators and Jamie Lawson should not have been there he was that bad.
Overall it was a good weekend though - pity so many bands were on at the same times in different venues but for 22.50 Euro it was well worth it. And while there are some bands that I thought should have been there and weren't I thought the HWCH did a fine job.

Kierry, I caught 2 half songs of the rags and walked out, did absolutely nothing for me.
Did anyone answer the frames question? They played a mainly new set and it was fairly good.

I was at a few gigs at HWC2.Lazarus soul and Autamata really stood out as original music . I saw Nina Hynes too which I didn't think was brilliant or awful. I go to most of her gigs and I am a big fan. The sound was pretty bad too though and it was a shame as usually she is amazing and stands out as totally original, interesting and exciting.

What does everyone think of the HWCH gig reviews now up on the site?
And yep that was me with the notepad at the Jenny Lindfors set. My t-shirt was green though and it's Gareth Maher, or just Gar. Liked your review though Ian. Fair play mate.

Cheers Gar, I liked yours too. I didn't think that I'd be able to do a straight review with all the running about I did so I tried to just let it flow right out of me. I was quite pleased with the results, which is a big thing for me to say as I normally read back over something that I write a few hours/days later and decide that it's crap.

Gar, I meant to ask, you said Jeff Martin played a song called "Bizzare Love Triangle", was that a cover of the New Order song of the same name?

I'm not sure about that Jeff Martin song but I can ask him next week when I interview him to serve your curiosity.

Yeah, that would be cool. I'm a big New Order fan, and its always interesting to see how they've influenced a such a diverse selection of other artists.

Bands i enjoyed in the order i saw them, ID Parade, The Chakras, Substance, Humanzie, The Mighty stef. Deadly weekend altogether. Hope it goes ahead next year. Would have liked to see more but alot of bands times clashed, but sure isnt that the beauty of any festival. Deadly buzz around town. Looking Forwar to Mainline in the Village on Saturday.
