I should point out though that I didn't bring politics into this discussion. I was simply responding to Brian of G's comments about Bono's spoken views which are, lets face it, highly political. Indeed, so are his lyrics...

To be fair, I can't quite see how any discussion on U2's songs can avoid politics when they are such a political band and previous postings on this thread by other members have made direct reference to the political content of their music. It would be a bit like discussing the rap lyrics of Public Enemy and never mentioning their views on The Nation of Islam or Malcolm X.
