Finding it increasingly hard to discover decent new music these days. So much boring, samey, derivative rubbish out there. There is great music to be found but you really have to work hard to find it.....anyway, lately I are be mostly be listening to the following....

Mogwai- The Hawk Is Howling. The masters return with their best album yet and that is really, really, REALLY saying something.

Barbara Morgenstern- 'Come To Berlin' (Telefon Tel Aviv remix)
Manual- 'Until Tomorrow'
My Bloody Valentine-Live MP3s from the ICA, London warm-up gigs.
Friendly Fires- 'Jump In The Pool' Single
Rone-'Bora'
Nadja- 'Touched'
Hermann & Klein 'Our Noise'
Efterklang- 'Tripper'
David Holmes- 'The Holy Pictures'
Amiina- 'Kurr'

The Hawk is Howling is a fine record but they'll do well to ever top Young Team.

'Young Team' is good but it's probably the album of theirs I've listened to the least. It's not produced very well, it's very uneven and has a lot of half-formed ideas and filler, though it does have 'Tracy', 'Like Herod', 'Mogwai Fear Satan' which are worthy additions to the Mogwai canon. They've improved and matured their sound with each successive album, culminating with the new album which is an incredible piece of work.

I see Mogwai's career trajectory as the inverse of what you've suggested. They've had some great moments in their albums since Young Team but nothing as relentlessly coherent. In fact I'd struggle to name a more impressive debut from the 1990's.

i haven't heard any new stuff from mogwai in so long. the last album i bought by them was rock action. there was some excellent stuff on that. also loved come on die young at the time. listened to it again recently, for some reason i don't enjoy it as much these days
