Jurys Inn @ Christchurch is probably the nearest and safest bet for a nice hotel near Vicar St.

Sorry but it's not a question about whether he's a genius or not, €100 odd quid for a gig to see ANYONE is a bloody scandal. End of story. It boils down to whoever can afford it can go...does that not totally contradict the mans folk roots? There are plenty of 'Older' musicians, genius-like even, that I would do anything to see, but on principal alone I'm not paying that kind of cash - not a chance. If you're prepared to do that you may as well jet over to the US or London to see gigs and do it in style.

Indeed. It's nice to know that some people can afford flights and hotels as well as ridiculously over-priced tickets, but the point is that those people are only a minority. My mate takes home a measly 210 quid a week from his job and he's supposed to pay 80 quid for rent, buy food for the week, pay for his bus fares to work and still have enough money to fork out 105 quid for an hour and a half concert ticket. Such less fortunate folk are entitled to gripe, legend or not.

woe musky!!!!! re paying 105 euros for tickets to see neil young, i seem to have hit a few raw nerves. i totally agree that for some, if not most, 105 euros is a lot, it is for us as well, but we have waited 25 years for an opportunity to see the man!!!! i'm a full time mature student at queens(belfast) so no flights required and my husband is facing redundacy from bombardier shorts. this is a big event for us and was not undertaken lightly, the last time we were out together was to see the eagles 2 years ago at stormont(we've 2kids and rarely go out)so please dont spoil our moment, this is a lifetimes wish come true!!!!!

As much as I am irked by the 100 euro price tag (the tickets for Vicar St are now changing hands for 500 euro), I do bring some good news for Neil Young fans. Apparently he has just finished recording an new album with Crazyhorse and are due to embark on a "massive" (read stadium, I suppose) tour later this year.

20099002,
no one wants to spoil your moment or has the right to know your business like that, I doubt they even begrudge you those tickets, but I'm sure you understand why people are upset about this. For example, before the euro even came in, people were only paying £38-45 for even the biggest gigs (slane or a day at Witnness etc.) but in less than 2 years they've driven all these prices into the 60s & 70s and now they've breached the 100 quid mark with an unwarranted vengeance. It's an astronomical trend that I feel everybody sees with Neil Young & Paul McCartney tickets, even Slane is nearly 70 quid this year so it's not surprising that people have raw nerves. You don't have to justify your attendance like that, but it seems that we are unable to justify such a price.
Anyway, all the best and enjoy the gig

great news on the album front, look forward to hearing it!i do know what you mean about prices rocketing after the introduction of the euro it seems quite a few took it as carte blanche to hike up the prices of almost everything (including tickets to gigs!!!!)perhaps folk in the north are right to be wary of converting to the euro at least we still have a grasp on sterling!!!!!

It's actually nothing to do with having a grasp on your currency - it's to do with being ripped off by promoters. The Euro is pretty cool. We are a European Country after all. It's fantastic not having to change your money going away and you know what you are getting for your money. I actually resent having to change my money when I drive over the border. Ireland hasn't lost any patriotism or sense of identity by joing in, why is the UK lagging behind?

Sure the initial reaction is €105, what a rip off. Its a once in a lifetime event and its a 3 HOUR SHOW..not 60 to 90 minutes. If people are willing to €105 plus to see an ex Beatle spew out a few classics in large venue then......
Neil Young is a legend, pure and simple. I would gladly pay twice the amount in question and spend the rest of the year living on cheese and crackers.

To reiterate the point, it's not about whether he's a legend or not. 105 quid is a friggin' scandal. Cheese & crackers? You've probably indvertenly made best friends with greedy screwball promoters with that. Can you not see you're being screwed?

But we are getting screwed everywhere! Generally there is quite a fluctuation in prices over Neil's entire european tour, from €39 in Milan to €135 in Paris. Is there any real point in complaining? Its this crazy inflation thats crippling the country. €105 would barely get you a meal and a bottle of wine in Dublin and at the current rate it would probably stretch as far as three pints of Guinness...I don't blame Neil or even those morally vacuous promoters, its just the economic climate....

I was at the Sunday night gig - it was excellent. Given that the first half of the evening is as much storytelling as singing (he plays his new album which is a concept album about an offbeat family in a mythical small town), there is no way he could play it in a stadium.
As for the value for money argument - he normally plays stadia, and no doubt will again. If he chooses to play very small venues, then I guess there is an argument for charging more.
I felt far more ripped off when I went to Slane to see REM. Crappy, promoter-couldn't-give-a-s**t facilites for toilets and at the bar, followed by a a frightening crush in the darkness as everybody stumbled towards the single unlit exit.
BTW, got the tickets via an ad in Buy and Sell. And there were plenty of them available.......

Ah REM in slane, what a day. I remember paying only £25.50 for that one back in the good old days...and that price has more than doubled to go to Slane today. Who cares about crappy toilets and poorly lit exits, at least you weren't being ripped off as is so commonplace these days.
