I did indeed catch them in whelans, been waiting years for that gig. And it was quality in my humble opinion. Really enjoyed that gig. Ive got all 3 of their albums and each is brilliant in its own way.

why are we allowed to advertise/recommend Gigs here when Irish artists are not allowed to advertise/rcommend their own gigs on this section. They are always moved by a moderator

There is a difference between advertising and recommending!!! One is supplying an opinion and the other is for self advancement

Missed the recommending part in your original comment. sorry I suppose the reason is just that, advertising is not the same as recommending. There is a potential comercial gain to the advertising part which does not existing in a recommendation ( at least we take people at their word that there is no commercial gain in their recommendation )

The thread was moved... now im confused. genuine question here, but does this mean that people can no longer make gig "recommendations" in the soap box area. Gig recommendations are not Gig Announcements. Gig recommendations are an important source of comment and should surely belong in the soap box area Well thats my 2 cents anyway

Its the first time I've looked at the board today, as a general rule, I usually move all gig announcements to the gig announcements section, even if it appears to be posted by someone not associated with the band or if theres a small doubt as to the nature of the post. The reason is pretty simple, back before we created this section, people posted endless gig announcements in the soap box, to the extent that there were more gig announcments than actual discusssions and it totally killed of any discussion in the soap box. Since we've started moving all the gigs to their own section about a year ago, the discussion board has flourished and as you can see is generally quite busy. Just because a lot of people read the soap box doesn't mean its the best place post your gig, remember plugging your gig in a discussion area is spamming and will probably be seen by other members in a negative light -> not good for your band. Anyone who is looking for a gig to go to will have the sense to look in the gig section. Any band looking for publicity on Cluas, will probably find its far more effective to invite a cluas writer to your gig, we'll give you a fair but honest review and it'll be posted on the site. Getting a good review is going to be far more effective in the long term, because people will probably be looking out for your next gig, rather than you having to try to hard to plug it, which is something most people don't really respond to anyway. edit - just seen your post there, yep, I'd like to see more discussions about homegrown bands too, but without the cynicism or thinly veiled plugging of own/bests mates band

Either way, you are bringing peoples attention to a gig, hence they should be treated as the same. Is the really a dfference between the posts below, considering the cynisms that is abound on this board (myself included) The Blahs, Dorans, 8pm. 6euro & Hey, caught a decent band last night playing support. Got talking the singer afterwards, says they're playing Dorans on Tues. They were pretty good, called the blahs, or the Baas. Not sure tbh.

I hear ya Binokular, there ha to be seperation. I suppose its just frustrating that there is never discussions on the Gig page or the New recordings page of homegrown artists. I just feel that the people who visit and post on cluas are obvously into their music but they never give feedback on the New Recording sections. I blame the parents
