I was not at the gig myself, but i was talking to a few people who were at the gig, they said there was a huge crowd. Mick had everyone in the audience sitting on the ground at one stage. I also heard that the Subtonics put on a great show. I am pised off I didnt go.

it was hard workin' blues drenched, sweet dripping, hip hoppin beautiful. mick really worked the crowd he's one demandin' daddy! and they were lapping it up out of his sweaty shaking hands. Chanting back word for word and kneeling down in spiritual communion yeeeeees sir it wasa great gig. packed too with well wishers, they are very generous wiht the guest list it has to be said it was about 7 pgs long! its just as well they are so popular cos they're manager seems a bit lazy.

SHEWOLF: Calling Republic of Loose's manager lazy, when you obviously dont know the guy is pretty petty and small minded if you ask me. You wouldn't have been at that gig if it wasn't for thier manager. Thier single would not be in the shops if it were not for thier manager, for that matter, they would not have a record deal in the u.k, an album recorded and ready for release if it were not for thier manager. The only reason you ever heard of Republic of Loose is because of thier manager. He is one of the hardest working people alive today. You applaud the band for thier generous guestlist while slagging off thier manager? Who do you think it was that insisted on the huge guestlist. Let me give you a clue, it wasn't the band, but thier "LAZY" manager. You either have some nerve or no clue. Whatever your gripe is, mabey you shold think for a moment before insulting a decent honest hardworking man. Thats my piece.

b****x... i heard of them cos one of the lads who used to be in johnny pyro posted about it on boards.ie then i heard more about them cos they're a f**kin class band and lots of people are talking bout them... i dont recall thier manager making them a class band. i think perhaps you read a little bit too much into what their manager is doing for them... at the end of the day its their talent thats selling them

Sigmund i have no gripe whatsoever against dermot doran he seems very funny and likeable, i've met him several times and think he's grand, i realise he wants to help ROL which is admirable in itself and i know vis a vis record deals and recording his contacts and work on theri behalf have paid off however ROL are well known cos they play so damn good and they do mucho gigs and everyone who hears them brings someone else i think mick above there has it about right so i'm not gonna make this post repetitve. I found them thru a friend and went to their gigs every since. ultimately a manager only works for a band, the band still set the pace adn are the golden goose so to speak, so if they have a huge guest list that's the band's personality not the manager's but stuff like launch party's, alerting journalists, setting up new gigs, tour dates, image, even making sure they get a good producer and giving them goos advice are all the manager' s job. I'm only gonna say this cos i like them so much and care about their music but i think judging by the single they did not do themselves justice on the mixing engineering or production. Bres told me that the single wasn't the band first choice and they were surprised by the comapny's choice -i think this is were a manger steps in to fight for his her boys and make sure the band is happy. i dunno - i'd normally speak out more forthrightly than i am gonna here cos people seem easily offended instead of being willing to use the discussion - but all i can say is that it was just an inpression i got and its better to argue these things straight to people's faces so when i meet you next time sigmund i'll do just that. i'd tell the band too that the single is more republic than loose and they need to let the proverbial juice flow in the recording situation. production should capture what the band is about a snapshot of them really. and this single does them great injustice. IF the album is of the same quality they should just rerecord it now and get it right because they're worth it!

Fair enough, what you think of the single is your call. All I really have a problem with, is you slagging Dermot. Lazy he aint'.

i just reckon sigmund, if dermot or republic of loose have got you doing their p.r. on the web, they should take a quick look at who you are actually promoting.

sorry if i wasnt clear... eh when sigmund was defending ROL's manager he seemed to take the attitude that because of him they were where they were. surely if you had someone onboard doing your publicity you would want to make sure that they would at least back you up if you get me? its one thing to defend mr doran, personally i think he's doing an excellent job, but its another thing to almost attack the band (like the quote i took above) especially when its them you are promoting

aaaaah yes see what you mean now, its the ol carried away syndrome, which is perfectly alright as well but a little absurd i suppose if you end up demoting the band to second fiddle to the manager when you're supposed to be promoting them. i'm sure it was a freudian slip on sigmund's behalf. i wasn't disputing how generally hard working Dermo is or isn't by the way it was strictly in relation to the band i think he's doing an o. k job rather than an excellent one, and that's my personal opinion. to answer sig sig's question i suppose i have some nerve rather than not a clue, but its nerve that will serve! what do you think of the single?

Really dont want this to go 4ever, so this will be my last post on it. Mick, If I went over the top, as I have stated since, I just had a problem with someone slagging me mate. Having called the guy lazy, now shewolf clarrifies that that's just in relation to the band, and now she thinks he is doing an o.k job. Not lazy anymore but o.k rather than exellent. Mabey shewolf will change her mind again in the future. I dont do PR for the band. I only returned to this thread after shewolfs unprovoked and unfounded slur which has been backtracked and watered down since. Not lookin' for any bad vibes, dont want to draw attention away from the band, will always stick up for me mates when I think someone is having a go for no good reason. Cest tout.

sigmund surprised to hear u say backtracked and watered down when all i was doing was clarifying my impression of dermots efforts on behalf of the band, its not wishy washyness but a correction a modification to what i said as i'm open to other viewpoints in discussions, if i think there may be a valid point in them. sticking up for your friends is good once you don't get stuck there. loyalty to the point of stupidity is never admirable, right is right and you feel pretty stongly in this case so i hope you're right thats all. dromed yeah the single is great adn its a real dancer that's why i wish mick's vocals were higher in the mix they seem a leetle low, and i think his i don't wanna hurt rant should have been more of a crescendo cos the funky riff is unforgettable, so i wish they sounded more loose in the recording situation but its still a good feeling
