In Dublin, "The Last Sunday Showcase" is a unique opportunity to hear emerging original songwriters perform. The gig takes place on the last Sunday of every month at the Holiday Inn, Dublin City Centre and is organised in association with IMRO. The next showcase takes place this weekend on Sunday 28th September 2003 and will feature:- Kevin May & Mick Lynch Duke Special Fran King with special guest Dave Browne (Picturehouse) Date: Sunday 28th September 2003 Doors: 9.00 pm Tickets:€10.00 The Last Sunday Showcase The Holiday Inn Dublin City Centre 99-107 Pearse Street Dublin 2 Phone 01 670 3666 web www.holidayinndublincitycentre.ie PLEASE SEE BRIEF BIOG INFORMATION BELOW Kevin May & Mick Lynch www.guggenheimgrotto.com Kevin May and Mick Lynch formed Guggenheim Grotto in April 2003. Already they have supported Gemma Hayes, Mundy, Damien Rice, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Woodstar. Citing musical, lyrical and stylistic influences ranging from Badly Drawn Boy to Leonard Cohen and Bruce Springsteen, their limited-edition, self-produced and financed debut EP "A Lifetime in Heat" has been a complete sellout at gigs and the pair have now commenced recording their first album. Duke Special www.dukespecial.com Resident in Belfast and carrying within his songs hints of that city's music hall legacy, Duke Special cuts a particularly interesting dash. One part late-night poker room balladeer, the other all flying hammers and devil-may-care, Duke Special mines an historic vein of pop writing, harking back to a pre-Beatles era of literate and theatrical performers. He brings a unique musical identity to his songs of genuine warmth and accessibility. Recent high-profile support slots have included Steve Earle, Ron Sexsmith, The Black Velvet Band and Brian Kennedy. Fran King www.geocities.com/frankingmusic A veteran of popular Dublin outfits "The Beatless" and "Quarrymen" (later to become "The Classic Beatles"), Fran has performed at virtually every major venue in Ireland in attitionn to performing in front of over 60,000 people in Dublin's Phoenix Park. As the songwriter and bass player with late 1990's pop/rock outfit "Beach", Fran supported Van Morrison, Texas and World Party, among others, and toured the U.S.A. in 1999 receiving positive reviews and a Billboard magazine recommendation. Fran is currently writing and recording tracks for his debut solo album. His instinct for hook filled melodies combined with his ability as a multi-instrumentalist are sure indicators that this individual offering will be well worth waiting for. with special guest Dave Browne www.picturehouse.ie As lead singer, guitarist and songwriter with Picturehouse, Dave fronts one of the hardest working rock bands in Ireland. Renowned for their superb live performances, the band have performed literally dozens of arena shows as special guests for the Corrs, Meatloaf, Bon Jovi, Texas and Melanie C. Since 1999 Picturehouse have played to over a million happy punters around Europe as part of the tour to promote their "Karmarama" album. Their latest album "Madness, Sadness, Gladness" was released in late 2002 and Dave’s songwriting showcases both his strong pop sensibilities and excellent rock pedigree. A born entertainer, Dave’s solo appearance at "The Last Sunday Showcase" is bound to be memorable!
