The Twisted Nerve night was really good - Jukes were amazing....had a girl drummer that was also the lead vocalist, fantastic voice and good songs, kind of Broadcast vibe. Then Adian Smith got up on his own to play keyboard....didn't play any song longer then like a minute, really good buzzy tunes, nice melodies, very humble all together! Misty Dixon were very good - All girl band bar a male guitarist - very Stereolab, but a bit harder. Good tunes. Drummer bird looked like one of Atomic Kitten though which was a bit strange, but fair play to them they were impressive. The first 30 people in to the gig got a free set of about 5 Twisted Nerve Cd singles from the likes of Badly Drawn Boy and Mum & Dad - there was also a free Twisted Nerve Compilation CD with nearly 20 tunes on it - which has an amazing tune from Sirconical and the rest of it is class too.
Sadly there was barely 20 people at the bloody gig! I was embarrased for the bands - Andy Votel made such an effort with the CDs etc - after paying for three bands to come over you'd want more then 25 people there - it was in the village and as soon as the doors opened for the club (the free in club) after the gig, the place was packed within about a half hour - what's the bleedin' story with that?
I know it wasn't advertised very well but c'mon...does no one go to a gig on the off chance anymore? Or are we so sick of paying through the nose for everything in Dublin that we won't even go to a gig unless we KNOW it's going to be good? What was the last gig you went to that you knew nothing about and came away thinking 'I'm glad I saw that'?
