"The Last Sunday Showcase" is unique opportunity to hear emerging original songwriters perform and takes place at the Holiday Inn, Dublin City Centre on the last Sunday of every month. The showcase is organised in association with IMRO. The August showcase takes place this weekend on Sunday 31st August 2003 and will feature:- Ian Smith Úna O'Boyle Paul Casey with special guest Juliet Turner Date: Sunday 31st August 2003 Doors: 9.00pm Tickets: €10.00 The Last Sunday Showcase The Holiday Inn Dublin City Centre 99-107 Pearse Street Dublin 2 Phone 01 670 3666 web www.holidayinndublincitycentre.ie PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR BIOG INFORMATION Ian Smith Born and raised in Scotland, singer/songwriter/guitarist Ian Smith is now based in Donegal. He has been writing, singing and performing in many musical styles over the years. As a performer, Ian has played guitar on tour with Dolores Keane and Aoife Ní Fhearraigh in Ireland, Britain and around Europe. He has also graced a stage with Christy Moore and Liam Ó Maonlaí. His debut solo album "Restless Heart" is testament to Ian’s optimistic nature - this wonderful collection of songs is characterised by themes of hope and possibility. Nashville songwriter Tony Arata has dubbed the album "Poet's Heart" - praise indeed from this prolific songwriter whose songs have been recorded by a host of Nashville’s aristocracy including Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless and Emmylou Harris. Úna O'Boyle www.unaoboyle.com Úna O’Boyle is best known as half of ambient-trance-dance duo Hyper, with whom she won a Heineken/Hot Press Music Award, and whose recently released fourth album "Gaelactica" garnered wide critical acclaim. Of late, Úna has been devoting time to her solo career and honing her songwriting skills. She is renowned for emotive performances of her songs set in piano and percussive soundscapes that allow them space to gently penetrate the consciousness. Collaborations with respected songwriter Thom Moore ("Carolina Rua", "Cavan Girl") and Dave Couse, former A House frontman, have been fruitful - Úna has finished recording an as yet unreleased album with Couse under the guise "Locomotiv". Paul Casey www.paulcaseymusic.ie Having supported Damien Rice, The Frames and Gemma Hayes, Derry blues guitarist Paul Casey is getting noticed fast. Casey has just completed a series of critically acclaimed gigs in New York and was invited to showcase at the prestigious Starr Hill Music Hall in Charlottesville, Virginia. Casey’s live performances have been causing quite a stir and his electric guitar style has been compared to the late Rory Gallagher and the legendary Eric Clapton. with special guest Juliet Turner www.julietturner.com With her distinctive voice, memorable melodies and intelligent lyrics, Juliet Turner is undoubtedly one of the most talented songwriters to emerge from Ireland in recent years. Her debut offering "Let's Hear it for Pizza" was released in 1996 and her 2000 album "Burn the Black Suit" achieved double platinum sales in Ireland and yielded the singles "Take the Money and Run" and "Dr. Fell". Juliet has built her audiences in Ireland and the UK through a relentless touring schedule including well-chosen support slots with big-name artists such as Sting, Natalie Merchant, Brian Kennedy, Tracy Chapman, Joan Armatrading, Gabrielle and Bryan Adams. Work is well underway on Juliet's third album - provisionally entitled "Season of the Hurricane" - which is scheduled for release in early 2004. ENDS
