Apologies to those of you who tried to access the Discussion board earlier today and failed. Yeah, the migration of the site last night to the new web server threw up a few problems for the board (to be expected) but all that is now sorted. As you’ll see the Google ads are also now live across the site. The relevancy of the ads for the discussion board is – alas - brutal. But I am in touch with Google Ads team to sort that out. It may take a bit of time however so in the meantime please put up with ads for Book clubs and University essay writing services.
Otherwise the relevancy of the ads elsewhere on the site is okay. One word of advice however – don’t go clicking on ads you’re not interested in cuz you want to ‘help out’ CLUAS, or whatever, by ensuring we get some ‘click thru’ commissions from Google. The google ad set-up is very sophisticated and:
a) They can suss out when people are trying to defraud the system and if they work it out they are known to cancel accounts with the click of a finger;
b) Their ad server has intelligence built in and it uses info on what ads are clicked on to decide on what type of future ads are served up. So if everyone clicks on ads on CLUAS for ‘Hotels in Donegal’ and ‘Jane Austen Books clubs’, we can expect more of the same. Know worrah mean?
On the other hand if an ad – no matter what its subject – catches your interest do not hesitate to click on it!
Expect in any case for some changes on the ad front (types of ads, where I position them on different parts of the site, etc) over the coming period as I optimise the ads on the site.
And let me know what you think of the whole set-up.
