i think....
that it is one of the best albums ever recorded...
...and apparently jeff mangum has been seen on stage again recently so you never know... we may yet get another record or gig out of them

Wasn't that album recently re-released?
A pretty good album indeed. I have it months now though.

it's a wonderful album and sounds so fresh it's hard to believe that it's almost ten years old
it would be great if there was some live outlet for these tracks either in a magnum solo show or a reformation of sorts (unlikely i know)

Possibly the most overrated thing I've EVER heard. I bought it after hearing loads about how great it was and couldn't believe how ordinary it was.

While I think it's pretty good, I have to admit not being blown away as much as others have been. I have tried numerous times to find the underlying genius in it. But I just keep looking at a band like The Mountain Goats or Silver Jews, who can do it much much better. In contrast to that, still a good album - just not amazing.

i don't usually say this because it's all subjective but...
you are WRONG...
this is a fantastic album... it is positively unhinged, manic melody... and the artwork is something else... the whole thing freaks me out, kinda like the childcatcher in chitty chitty bang bang or flan o'briens the third policeman
mangum is not gigging again, he has made the odd appearance with others for one song...
...he is also not an ice cream

"In the Aeroplane...." is mental. But wonderfully so. Like a carnivalesque trip through Jeff Magnum's mind. Heard that he has been seen out and about gigging with some friends and has also put out a compilation of Bulgarian (i think) folk songs. "On Avery Island" is worth a blast although "In the Aeroplane.." is the masterpiece.

cool, protein... you are very right...
seriously detractors, give it another go... i tucked it away for absolutely ages after writing it off on one listen... when i got it out again last year, i was gobsmacked at what i'd passed over...
(i did the same thing with spiderland by slint as well)
and seeing as 3 out of 3 of you have done it in this thread:
