Their music sounds decent but the singing is offputting. Check out Shout Out Louds, Russian Futurists or The Cribs instead.

don't know the Russian Futurists. saw The Cribs a million years ago in the Hub. The Shout Out Louds are excellent. Something very special has to come along to tear me away from The Arcade Fire album, and that new/old At The Drive In one.

that said, the singer from the Duke Spirit is amazing and also in contention for my favourite album this year is The Knife. Do you have that album? it is so unbelievably good. Just crazy, f**ked up beats and lyrics.

Nah I'll have to check out that album by The Knife. I'm liking a few tracks by The Cribs and just ordered an album by Shout Out Louds. Currently flicking between new albums by The Coral, Duke Spirit, Spoon and Mountain Goats.

who are mountain goats? i really hope it's an album made by real mountain goats. I love In The Morning by the Coral. They are so good.

I'm big fan of The Coral, have all their stuff and saw them in the Olympia. The new album is pretty good, a little more mature (maybe due to Ian Broudie not producing it). Hopefully they get signed up for Oxegen. You should really check out The Mountain Goats. The new album 'The Sunset Tree' is quite good but I would recommend the 'Tallahassee' album which is just superb. www.themountaingoats.net

Tallahassee is a quality album alright, especially that See America Right tune. The follow up We Shall All Be Healed is worth checking out as well. I'm quite fond of the Knife. Deep Cuts was one of my favourite dance albums of last year and the Rex the Dog mix of Heartbeats is a bit of an anthem around my neck of the woods. I have that Cribs album but it's pretty patchy. They're not great live either and their last single didn't do much for me. I'm still not decided on the Duke Spirit. I like their last two singles but all the stuff they released before that is only middling (especially that over rated Roll, Spirit, Roll EP). I'll probably still check them out when they play Galway though. I haven't picked up a copy of the new Coral album yet but I love the single. It's just a classic sunny side up start of the summer tune like Island In The Sun or There She Goes. The same goes for the new Eels and Magic Numbers singles.

Yeah summer tunes are coming out now. I like the new Magic Numbers tune 'Forever Lost' and Turin Brakes 'Fishing For A Dream'. As I said The Coral's new album is quite good - takes a few listens but defintly worth a purchase if you like them overall. Same with the new double album by Eels 'Blinking Lights And Other Revelations', which has to be in the running for one of the albums of the year so far.

If he made it a single album it would definitely be one of the albums of the year. I think my favourite albums of the year so far are Bloc Party and LCD Soundsystem. I'm really feeling The Arcade Fire, Anthony & The Johnsons and Khonnor albums but they're all from last year so I guess they don't count. As for compilations, my favourites of the year so far would be the Optimo DJ's How To Kill The DJ Part 2 compilation, Erol Alkan's Bugged Out Mix and 2 Many DJ's 50,000,000 Soulwax Fans Can't Be Wrong CD. It looks like it's going to be a great year for hip hop too. The new albums from Edan, Quasimoto and Common are all class. And to think it's still only May.
