Dublin's least relevant independent music label, yesboyicecream records, presents: Bliss! - the debut album by Washington DC's The Positions. Preview tracks on: www.yesboyicecream.com/ybimusic.html www.myspace.com/yesboyicecreamrecords www.last.fm/label/yesboyicecream Available NOW from www.yesboyicecream.com/ybishop.html and in all good virtual and physical shops from September 11th. RELEASE: For anyone who considers 'pop' a dirty word, cover your ears. ‘Bliss!’ is 40 minutes of the stuff at its glorious best, the perfect accompaniment to all your late summer into autumn activities. Recorded by Archie Moore (Velocity Girl, Heartworms), Bliss! is for anyone and everyone who thinks perfect pop should make you want to laugh, cry and move those shuffling feet (simultaneously, if possible). The energy and immediacy of The Positions' sound has been moulded by pop philosopher Ivan Ramiscal (formerly of US synthpop darlings Barcelona) to reflect his love for classic 60s and 80s pop. The beauty is that he has managed to distil influences covering 40 years of pop into a wholly original and contemporary record. Aside from the Belle and Sebastian and Dexy’s comparisons, ‘Back to Me’ is as close as you’ll get to 21st Century Phil Spector, ‘Good Times’ gives a nod to the Big O’s ‘You Got It’, while ‘I Need You’ references The Smiths (lyrically) and Spritualized (musically). The Positions are a five-piece from Washington DC. Their music can currently be heard polluting the airwaves of 6Music & XFM in the UK and Today FM & 2FM in Ireland. One Chord to Another Bliss! rises somewhere from the three-minute wonders of 60's pop á la Spector and...sets its heart on bringing glorious pop melodies for your pleasure. It's a perfect pop album. Tangents With perky horn blasts and a sugar Pop rush that comes on like Belle And Sebastian on a restricted diet of sherbert and jelly babies, Bliss! is guaranteed to have even the coyest of indiekids shaking their hips on the dancefloor. Hitch Magazine If this world weren’t so damned jaded, The Positions would be on top of it. On the aptly titled Bliss!, their easy-breezy brand of up-tempo pop is laden with trombones, trumpets and an all-around dose of good-natured optimism...Even if it’s a dull gray outside, it’s guaranteed to make the sun shine in your heart. splendid zine Perhaps there's not a lot of room in the cynical indie-rock world for songs that spew awkward hopefulness and optimism by the gallon, but if there is, The Positions will be there -- corsages mounted, party hats strapped to their heads, asking for the next dance.
